In his debut season at Miami in 2025, Carson Beck led the Hurricanes to one of the most improbable postseason runs in recent memory. They knocked off Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Ole Miss to reach the College Football Playoff National Championship game against Indiana.
However, Beck and his squad’s dream for the national title ended with a 27-21 loss to Fernando Mendoza’s Indiana.
Carson Beck’s Career Closes With Another Game-Ending Pick
With 44 seconds left in Monday’s game and Miami driving from the Indiana 41-yard line, Beck’s final throw was intercepted by Jamari Sharpe, which sealed the defeat for the Hurricanes. They finished the season 13-3, and all three of their losses ended the same way- with an interception thrown by Beck.
That trend showed up earlier in the year as well. In Miami’s 24-21 loss to Louisville in October, the final offensive snap resulted in a Beck interception. The same thing happened in November, when Miami fell 26-20 in overtime to SMU, which also ended on a Beck pick.
Beck lost just six games in his college career, and in four of those losses, the last offensive play came down to a Beck interception with a chance to win. Besides Miami’s three losses this season, the remaining three came during his time at Georgia in 2023 and 2024.
Every loss stung, but Monday night’s ending is likely to haunt Beck the longest, as his final pass as a college quarterback ended in an interception.
“For it to end like that is hard,” Beck said following the loss. “It’s really tough, especially to battle the way that we did in the second half. To have a chance to win at the end, it says a lot about us. But to lose it — it really hurts. I’m just so grateful to have had the opportunity to play quarterback at this university. [Cristobal] gave me an opportunity when he didn’t know what it was going to look like.”
Beck led Miami to a historic season indeed, as the Hurricanes made their first-ever CFP as the No. 10 seed, took down the reigning champions, and had four wins against top 10 opponents. Following the Indiana loss, he left the field with his helmet still on and did not shake hands. However, after the game, he said that no matter what comes next, Miami will always hold a special place in his heart.
Beck threw for 232 yards and a touchdown in his final college game. That late interception brought an end to a college career that began in 2020 and spanned five seasons, including a redshirt year at Georgia before he used his extra COVID-19 eligibility to transfer to Miami. Despite frustration from some Miami fans over the interception, head coach Mario Cristobal refused to place blame on his quarterback.
“Like to have that last one back, but again, a lot of the plays made throughout the course of the year from the guys up here on stage to the guys in that locker room got us here to this moment and gave us an opportunity all the way to the end,” Cristobal said. “So proud of him.”
Beck started all 16 games for the Hurricanes and set a program record by completing 72.4 percent of his passes. He also finished with an 83.3 grade in the PFSN College Football QB Impact Metric.
