A touching scene from Melbourne Park captured the tennis world’s attention when photographs emerged showing Roger Federer’s twin daughters, Myla and Charlene, seated in the stands alongside Cruz Hewitt during Jannik Sinner’s opening match at the 2026 Australian Open.
The candid image of the young tennis personalities watching the defending champion in action quickly went viral on social media.
Roger Federer’s Daughters with Cruz Hewitt Watching Jannik Sinner’s Australian Open First Round Match
The 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer arrived at Melbourne Park last week for the inaugural opening ceremony of the season’s first major tournament. He was joined by his family, wife Mirka Federer, twin daughters, Myla and Charlene, and twin sons, Leo and Lenny, who were present in the stands of Rod Laver Arena during his Battle of the No. 1s, featuring Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, and Pat Rafter in a special doubles showcase.
Hewitt’s box was filled with his family, wife Bec Hewitt, daughter Mia, Ava, and son Cruz, who is participating in the Australian Open doubles main draw.
Now, on Tuesday, January 20, this next generation of tennis personalities, notably the Federer twin daughters and Cruz, were spotted in the stands watching the two-time defending champion’s opening round match.
An image of these three teenagers witnessing the Italian’s on-court prowess is going viral on X, capturing a lovely sight aside from the intense competitive drama.

Notably, Cruz himself is set to step foot on Court 13 tomorrow in a doubles showdown, teaming up with compatriot James Duckworth to take on Yuki Bhambri and André Göransson. He entered the singles draw as a qualifier but was eliminated in the first match in straight sets by Michael Zheng, a rising star and NCAA champion. He is a known admirer of the World No. 2, posting images with Sinner on his social media handles.

Interestingly, this is the same post that caught Nick Kyrgios’s attention last year, following Sinner’s doping controversy, prompting the 2022 Wimbledon finalist to drop pointed comments.
Sinner Dominantly Opens Another Australian Open Campaign
Sinner commenced his title defence dominantly against Frenchman Hugo Gaston, beating him 6-2, 6-1 in just 68 minutes. Gaston’s wrist injury, sustained following a heavy fall during the contest, ultimately forced his retirement after the second set, sending the Italian straight to the next round. The victory extended Sinner’s remarkable winning streak at Melbourne Park to 15 consecutive matches, underscoring his complete mastery of the hard courts.
With a career record of 23-4 at the Australian Open, Sinner now aims to clinch his third consecutive championship at the season’s first major. If he succeeds in doing so, he would become only the second men’s player in the Open Era to accomplish this feat, alongside Novak Djokovic, who did it twice: 2011-2013 and 2019-2021.
Sinner will now face James Duckworth, with 97% chances of beating the Aussie to make his place in the third round, according to PFSN’s exclusive interactive tennis simulator.
