Rasmus Andersson Sends a Classy Message to Flames Fans After Blockbuster Trade to Vegas Golden Knights

Ramus Andersson leaves a sentimental message for the Calgary Flames community in the wake of his trade to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Endless trade speculations had surrounded defenseman Rasmus Andersson since the start of the season, and now, they have finally come to fruition. The Calgary Flames blueliner had attracted the interest of several teams, including the Boston Bruins and the Ottawa Senators. Still, Andersson is here to stay in the Pacific Division. The 29-year-old is headed for the desert to play for the Vegas Golden Knights.

With that, Andersson’s lengthy career with the Flames has finally concluded. However, the Malmö-born defenseman was not leaving without crafting one final message to the community he will be leaving behind in Calgary.

Rasmus Andersson Shares Heartfelt Message As Sun Sets on His Time with the Calgary Flames

Kelly McCrimmon will stop at nothing; despite all the uncertainty that surrounds the NHL trade market, the Golden Knights GM remains firm on his path to build a team that will propel the Knights to one playoff finish after another, season after season. The Golden Knights received Andersson from the Flames with 50 percent of his salary retained.

In return, the Flames received blueliner Zach Whitecloud, a 2027 first-round pick (top-10 protected), a 2028 second-round pick that will become a first-round pick if the Knights win a Stanley Cup in 2026, and prospect d-man Abram Wiebe.

This is an excellent trade from the Golden Knights’ perspective; with Alex Pietrangelo’s time with the Knights pretty much over, Andersson, a consistent producer, can help fill a crucial void. As the 29-year-old prepares to bid adieu to the Flames, he has decided to express his gratitude via a sentimental social media post.

“Calgary thank you for everything you’ve done for me, ever since being drafted in 2015 I’ve loved this organization!! I’ve truly loved every second of playing for this amazing team and city, to all the fans thank you for always supporting me and keeping me honest at the same time,” Andersson wrote on his official account X account.

Andersson also wrote that, despite his departure from the Flames, he will always be a fan of the franchise. “To my teammates, coaches, training staff and everyone at the front office, THANK YOU! Wishing the Flames nothing but the best in the future I’ll always be a fan.”

According to Eric Francis, Andersson’s refusal to sign a contract extension anywhere had led many teams to withdraw their interest in him. For teams like the Senators, a contract extension was a precondition to the trade.

“Conroy said five teams were involved in trying to obtain Andersson, but when his agent informed the Flames this morning he wouldn’t sign an extension anywhere several teams dropped out, others reduced their offers. Andersson would not give the Flames a number, in terms of what it would take to re-sign him in Calgary.”

With that, it is fair to say that a glorious chapter in Calgary has come to an end.
