Coco Gauff Reacts to Danielle Collins Calling Out ‘Haters’ After Controversy Over Iga Świątek Remarks

Before the Melbourne Major, Świątek represented Poland at the 2026 United Cup. During the event, she triumphed over Eva Lys and Suzan Lamens in the group stage matches. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Maya Joint, but lost to Gauff and Belinda Bencic in the semifinals and final, respectively.

Collins, who is currently a guest analyst for Tennis Channel, shared her predictions about how players would perform at the 2026 Australian Open. She suggested that Świątek might encounter “trouble in paradise” and could face difficulties at the Grand Slam tournament, especially following her back-to-back losses at the United Cup.

“I think it’s probably no surprise to people that follow tennis, but I’m going to go with Świątek. I was a little bit concerned with her performance at United Cup two back-to-back losses. So I think there’s a little bit of trouble in paradise for her right now,” Collins said.

These remarks were not well received by tennis fans, especially given the history between Collins and Świątek, prompting criticism of Collins for them.

In response to the backlash, Collins took to social media and shared a video in which she humorously referred to her “haters” as her “fans.”

“This is a message to all my haters out there: If you don’t like what I do, but you are watching everything I am doing, you are still a fan.”

Last year, at the Australian Open, Gauff reached the quarterfinals before losing to Paula Badosa, while Świątek advanced to the semifinals, where eventual champion Madison Keys eliminated her.

Who Will Gauff and Świątek Face at Australian Open 1R?

Gauff is the third seed at the 2026 Australian Open and will begin her campaign by taking on Kamilla Rakhimova in the first round. Ahead of the Melbourne Major, Rakhimova competed at the 2026 Brisbane International and the Adelaide International and was eliminated in the qualifying rounds of both events.

Gauff and Rakhimova have faced each other once on the WTA Tour, which was in the second round of the 2025 China Open, where the former World No. 2 won with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-0. The winner of the upcoming first-round match between the two players at the Australian Open will advance to face either Olga Danilović or wild card Venus Williams in the second round.

On the other hand, Iga Świątek is seeded second at the 2026 Australian Open and will start her campaign against qualifier Yuan Yue in the first round. Yuan secured her place in the main draw by defeating Louisa Chirico, María Lourdes Carlé, and Tamara Zidanšek in the qualifying rounds of the Grand Slam tournament.

Świątek and Yuan have only met once before on the WTA Tour, during the second round of the 2025 China Open, where the former World No. 1 achieved a 6-0, 6-3 victory. The winner of the first round match between Świątek and Yuan at the Melbourne Major will move on to face either Marie Bouzková or Renata Zarazúa in the second round.
