The Dallas Stars are putting together a strong season, sitting second in the Central Division with a 27-11-9 record. They’re coming off a 3-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, but their focus remains on making a deep playoff push.
As that push continues, questions are starting to grow around Jason Robertson’s long-term future in Dallas.
Stars Jason Robertson Opens Up About Contract Uncertainty
Robertson is in the final year of his four-year, $31 million contract, and extension talks have yet to produce an agreement. Reports suggest the winger is seeking a deal in the $12 million AAV range, similar to the eight-year contract Mikko Rantanen signed after being acquired by Dallas from Carolina.
With no deal in place, speculation around Robertson’s future, including trade rumors that date back to last season, has only intensified.
Speaking with The Athletic on Monday, Robertson addressed the uncertainty surrounding his future and made it clear how much Dallas still means to him. “Obviously, I love Dallas. It’s been great. It’s my home and everything,” Robertson said. “It has been my home for so many years, but a lot of things are changing and moving around, and hopefully, we’ll find the right thing.”
Despite the uncertainty, Robertson said contract talks haven’t affected his focus on the ice. “I’m happy that I have a good support system too,” he added. “My mom and dad do a good job keeping me in check and doing that.”
On the ice, Robertson has backed up his value with strong production, putting up 55 points in 47 games this season. Stars general manager Jim Nill has stayed optimistic throughout the process, maintaining ongoing communication with Robertson’s agent, Pat Brisson, even as the two sides continue to work toward common ground.
“Really, just wanted to say let’s just go have a good year, and we’re going to figure things out. And that’s where we’re at. He wanted to see where his game was at. We want to see where it’s at. I know he’s a good hockey player. He’s a big part of our team. We’re going to find a way to get it done,” Nill said.
One notable disappointment for Robertson this season came when he was left off the U.S. men’s hockey roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan. The decision surprised many fans and analysts, especially given that he currently ranks among the NHL’s top-scoring American players.

For now, Robertson and the Stars will shift their attention back to the ice, with their next matchup coming against Utah on Thursday.
