Tennis Fans React to Venus Williams Being “Mad” During 2026 Hobart International 1R Loss

Williams received a wild card entry into the main draw of the 2025 Hobart International. She faced sixth seed Tatjana Maria in the first round and lost with a scoreline of 4-6, 3-6. During the second set, after Maria executed a lob shot, the former world No. 1 appeared visibly frustrated and angry.

Williams’ reaction prompted tennis fans to take to social media to share their thoughts on the incident. One fan remarked that Williams looked “mad as hell” after Maria’s shot and expressed understanding for her frustration.

“Mad as hell and I don’t blame her 😭,” a fan posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Another fan noted that Williams seemed “tired” of the lob shots played by Maria throughout the match.

In the doubles event at the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland, Williams partnered with Elina Svitolina. They also received a wild card entry and lost in the first round to the team of Alexandra Eala and Iva Jovic, with a scoreline of 6-7(7), 1-6.

Looking ahead, Williams is set to compete at the 2026 Australian Open after receiving the eighth and final women’s wild card. The Grand Slam tournament will take place from Jan. 12 to Feb. 1, 2026, at Melbourne Park, with main draw matches starting on January 18.
