Taylor Townsend, flaunting her outfit from her win in the first round of the 2026 Australian Open qualifiers, received a heartwarming reaction from Naomi Osaka. Before the Melbourne Major, the two players, who share a close friendship both on and off the court, reunited in Australia.
It is worth mentioning that during the 2025 offseason, Osaka and Townsend spent time together, vacationing, boating, dancing, and enjoying various water sports, including jet skiing.
Naomi Osaka Reacts to Taylor Townsend’s Look for the 2026 Australian Open Qualifiers
The 2026 Australian Open is scheduled to take place from January 12 to February 1, 2026, at Melbourne Park, with the main draw matches starting on January 18. The qualifying matches are already underway, featuring 128 players competing for one of 16 spots in the main draw.
Townsend is seeded 11th in the women’s singles qualifying event, and she began her campaign by defeating Nao Hibino with a scoreline of 6-7(3), 6-0, 7-5 in the first qualifying round.
She will face Jazmín Ortenzi in the second qualifying round, with the winner advancing to take on either wild card Storm Hunter or 27th seed Lola Radivojević in the final qualifying round.
Following her win against Hibino, Townsend took to social media to share a series of pictures of herself from the match, showcasing her outfit. She wore an all-blue ensemble with a white sports visor and styled her hair with a white bow.
“First W of 2026 ✅ ✨ Circa 2012, the bow is back.. iykyk 🎀 💙,” Townsend captioned her Instagram post.

Reacting to Townsend’s outfit, Osaka commented with two emojis: a smiling face and a red heart emoji.
“😌 ❤️,” Osaka commented.

After encountering difficulties in securing an apparel sponsor, Townsend launched her self-designed clothing line during the 2025 French Open. Her kits feature a “TT” logo representing her initials, developed in collaboration with fashion designer Alexander John.
In November 2025, the former doubles World No. 1 appointed Dominique Wells as the creative director for her apparel line, who in March 2024 was named the Creative Director for the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team, the Washington Spirit.
As for Townsend’s performance in the Australian Open, her best result in the tournament came in 2025 during the doubles event. She teamed up with Kateřina Siniaková, and they triumphed over the defending champions, Hsieh Su-wei and Jeļena Ostapenko, in the final to claim the title.
Meanwhile, Osaka has won the Australian Open twice during her career, first in 2019 by defeating Petra Kvitová in the final, and again in 2021 when she overcame Jennifer Brady in the championship match.
