Texas A&M Lands 1,127-YD Transfer Portal WR Weapon for Marcel Reed

Mike Elko ensured a major boost for Marcel Reed as Texas A&M secured an elite wide receiver via the transfer portal.

Texas A&M has little concern at the quarterback position with Marcel Reed set to return in 2026, which will potentially be his final year. The Aggies’ roster constantly gets bolstered by the addition of several impact wide receivers, and Reed will have the deepest and most well-rounded receiving group of his career next season.

Mike Elko’s squad had an 11-2 overall record and a 7-1 mark in the Southeastern Conference this season.

Marcel Reed Gets a New Go-To Target After Texas A&M Lands Elite WR

Former Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Horton announced his commitment to Texas A&M through the NCAA Transfer Portal. The move comes following a rough stretch for the Crimson Tide, which missed out on a wide receiver replacement when Cam Coleman committed to Texas. Alabama also lost running back Hollywood Smothers, who had publicly committed to Kalen DeBoer before flipping to Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns on Sunday.

Horton joined Alabama ahead of the 2025 season and quickly became a trusted option for quarterback Ty Simpson. He played in all 15 games, starting 11 of them, and finished the year with 42 receptions for 511 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging better than 12 yards per catch. He also recorded five catches for 65 yards in Alabama’s 34-24 first-round College Football Playoff win over Oklahoma last month.

Horton carries a 75.2 grade in the PFSN College Football WRi. His arrival is expected to significantly help Reed, who threw for more than 3,100 yards and 25 touchdowns with 12 interceptions this season.

Before heading to Alabama, Horton spent three seasons at Mario Cristobal’s Miami. He totaled 56 receptions for 616 yards and five touchdowns in 2024. Throughout his final two seasons at Miami and Alabama, he combined for 98 catches, 1,127 receiving yards, and 13 scores.

Horton is a former four-star recruit and was ranked as the No. 49 wide receiver in the 2022 class by 247Sports. When he committed to the Aggies, he ranked as the No. 9 wide receiver in On3’s 2026 Transfer Portal Player Rankings.

Horton’s addition could be the final missing piece in Texas A&M’s receiver room and puts him in a position to compete for an immediate starting role for Elko, especially after leading receiver KC Concepcion declared for the 2026 NFL Draft.

Concepcion recorded a 61-catch, 919-yard, nine-touchdown season. Former Aggie wide receiver Izaiah Williams has also entered the transfer portal with plans to transfer to Kansas State.

Meanwhile, wide receiver Mario Craver has already announced his return to Texas A&M after posting 59 receptions for 917 yards and four touchdowns.

Texas A&M was undefeated until its regular-season finale against the Longhorns, which the Aggies lost 27-17. Their struggles continued into the postseason, where they were eliminated with a 10-3 loss to Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
