Manchester United tasted a 2-1 loss at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion in their FA Cup third round clash at Old Trafford on Sunday, Jan. 11. And, Red Devils fans have singled out a summer signing for criticism following the latest cup exit.
Fans Left Unhappy With Manchester United New Boy’s Display
During the FA Cup third round contest, Brajan Gruda bagged the opener for Brighton in the 12th minute after pouncing on a rebound. Former Red Devils striker Danny Welbeck netted the Seagulls’ second goal with an excellent left-footed shot from inside the box.
However, Manchester United summer arrival Benjamin Sesko scored from a corner taken by Bruno Fernandes in the 85th minute, much to the home fans’ elation. But the Old Trafford outfit failed to find a late equaliser, with Shea Lacey receiving a red card later on.
After the end of the cup game, one Manchester United fan expressed his unhappiness over Matheus Cunha’s performance against Fabian Hurzeler’s outfit. He claimed that the former Wolverhampton Wanderers star is quite unreliable, writing on X: “Cunha. Such a spineless coward! More upset he is wearing our 10. You can’t depend on him to do anything.”

A Manchester United fan likened the ex-Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig attacker to Arsenal’s Noni Madueke in a sarcastic manner. He wrote on X: “Cunha has mastered the art of being busy doing nothing. Madueke type s***.”
Another Red Devils fan echoed a similar sentiment and urged Cunha, who left Wolves for a fee of $84 million last summer, to improve in the near future. He remarked on X: “Cunha needs to find shame (as soon as possible by the way).”

One Manchester United supporter joked about the Brazilian forward, posting on X:” Cunha is an offensive footballer (he offends me every time he plays).”
Cunha, who turned 26 last May, has struggled to replicate last campaign’s brilliant form for Manchester United so far. He has contributed only four goals and one assist in 20 matches across competitions for the Red Devils, according to Transfermarkt.
In comparison, Cunha produced 17 goals and six assists in 36 total club games last term.
