The 2026 tennis season has gotten off to a blistering start at the Brisbane International. The Queensland Tennis Centre will play host to three exciting finals, with top seeds Aryna Sabalenka and Daniil Medvedev both looking to turn dominance into success ahead of the Australian Open.
Sabalenka will face Marta Kostyuk in the women’s singles final, while Medvedev will take on Brandon Nakashima in the men’s singles final. Sunday’s action will also feature the men’s doubles and wheelchair singles finals.
Brisbane International 2026 Day 8 Schedule
The final day of action at the Brisbane International will start with Sabalenka going up against Kostyuk. The World No.1 has hardly put a foot wrong so far in Brisbane, and has yet to drop a set at the tournament. She enjoyed a comfortable 6-3, 6-4 win over KarolÃna Muchová in the semifinals on Saturday.
Kostyuk’s road to the final involved her beating three top ten seeds. She pulled off an upset against World No. 3 Amanda Anisimova in the third round, before edging past Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals. The Ukrainian then delivered another excellent performance to defeat Jessica Pegula 6-0, 6-3 in the semifinals.
Sabalenka leads their head-to-head 4-0, with Kostyuk yet to take a set. So no prizes for guessing who will be the favorite in this one. However, Kostyuk has shown this week that she can go toe-to-toe against the best players, and will be eager to cap off the tournament with a surprise win over Sabalenka.
Medvedev is aiming to turn things around in 2026 after a forgettable 2025. He will be keen to end his week with another strong showing heading into the Australian Open. On Sunday, he will face Brandon Nakashima, who has played some solid tennis in Brisbane.
Nakashima began his campaign by upsetting second seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. He has also beaten the likes of Raphael Collignon and Aleksandar Kovacevic, and has yet to drop a set at the tournament. The 24-year-old will be hoping that 2026 is a breakout year for him, and a first career title since 2022 would be a great way to start.
Medvedev holds the head-to-head lead against Nakashima, having won their last match in Madrid last year in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
