Micah Parsons Explains Why Ole Miss Star Trinidad Chambliss Made the Right Call by Not Declaring for NFL Draft

Micah Parsons supports Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss returning to school, citing NIL money, after the Rebels’ CFP semifinal loss to Miami

Ole Miss walked off the field Thursday night in Miami knowing it had been one play away from a national championship game, and for quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, that reality now hangs over every part of his offseason.

What Did Micah Parsons Say To Back Trinidad Chambliss’ NIL-Fueled Decision To Return?

Instead of declaring for the NFL Draft after a breakout year, the Rebels’ star chose to return to Oxford, a decision that has sparked debate across college football and caught the attention of one of the NFL’s most recognizable voices.

Green Bay Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons, who is currently rehabbing from a torn ACL suffered in Week 15 and preparing to support his team as they get ready for a Wild Card Weekend matchup against the Bears, weighed in on Chambliss’ decision this week with a blunt take on how college football’s financial landscape has changed.

“Dude gonna make another 3-5 million maybe higher his first deal in the league! Kids are in no rush to get to the NFL. No more with NIL!” Parsons wrote on X in response to a post from BSO’s Robert Littal questioning why Chambliss would come back for another season despite a weak quarterback draft class.

Littal had suggested Chambliss’ stock might never be higher after a season that saw him finish eighth in Heisman voting and lead Ole Miss to a 13-win campaign and a College Football Playoff appearance. But Parsons’ point cuts straight to the heart of modern roster building. With NIL collectives now able to offer seven-figure deals to elite quarterbacks, staying in school is no longer a financial gamble the way it once was.

Chambliss, a former Division II transfer, threw for 3,937 yards with 22 touchdowns and just three interceptions in 2025, adding another 527 rushing yards and eight scores. Ole Miss went 11-2 in his starts, and the offense is set to bring back key pieces, including All-American running back Kewan Lacy. If the NCAA grants Chambliss’ eligibility waiver for a sixth season, he will return as one of the most experienced and productive quarterbacks in the country.

That waiver remains the final piece of the puzzle. Chambliss is arguing for a retroactive redshirt for the 2022 season at Ferris State, when he appeared in only two games. If approved, it would clear the way for him to run it back in the SEC rather than enter the NFL Draft, which lacks a deep quarterback class and offers little certainty beyond the top of the board.

Ole Miss narrow 31-27 loss to Miami in the Fiesta Bowl underscored both how close the Rebels are and how much unfinished business remains. The defense faltered late due to quarterback Carson Beck’s go-ahead touchdown run. That sting is part of what makes Chambliss’ return logical. Another year in a retooled program gives him a chance to chase a title, boost his draft profile, and get paid in the process.
