After finishing the 2025/26 season 6-11 with their QB and HC presumably in place, the New Orleans Saints are entering a pivotal offseason. QB Tyler Shough is on a rookie deal for another three seasons; some veteran players are nearing the end of their careers; and the NFC South is extremely weak.
New Orleans has an excellent opportunity to make a significant jump in year 2 of this rebuild, and one position in particular is an absolute must for this team to succeed, and Saints GM Mickey Loomis agrees.
Saints GM Reveals His Main Focus Going Into the Offseason
Looking at the Saints’ roster, there are several issues this team must address going into next season. Obviously, that’s easier said than done, and New Orleans may not have the ability or resources to fix every single issue, but there is still one issue above all else.
The Saints’ interior offensive line was a massive problem all season. Injuries throughout the interior, run blocking issues, and giving Shough little time to throw the ball suffocated the consistency this offense hoped for. Even when players stepped up, it still was not enough. HC Kellen Moore values the trenches and run game highly, so when a position on the offensive line is clearly an issue, the Saints are going to deal with it.
In the post-2025 season press conference, when asked about the interior offensive line being a priority this offseason, Saints GM Mickey Loomis spoke about his concerns for the position: “Yeah, well, I think the number 1 thing there is that we’ve gotta stay healthy.”
Loomis also spoke about his plan for entering the offseason with the interior offensive line: “We are going to have to evaluate that position, and we’ve got some free agents there, so it’s going to be an area we pay a lot of attention to in this offseason.”
Being able to listen to the Loomis’ thought process on a position isn’t always guaranteed in these press conferences, but given how big an issue the interior really is, it’s hard not to expand on it.
Having more cap flexibility than in previous years, there’s a good chance Loomis will be aggressive to find answers to the interior line in free agency. Will they be able to outbid other teams? That will be the main question, but I can almost guarantee the Saints will try to get deals done.
