Iga Świątek Taken Aback After Learning Her Stats Are Forever Changed

Świątek has a successful history of competing at the United Cup tournament, which is currently taking place across Perth and Sydney from January 2 to 11 at the RAC Arena and Ken Rosewall Arena. In 2023, at her debut at the mixed-gender event with Hurkacz and others, she reached the semifinal round.

In 2024, Świątek reached the final and was honoured with the MVP award, winning all her singles matches. In 2025, Team Poland once again reached the final, where Świątek won all her matches except the final, which she lost to Gauff.

In the current edition, the Poland team is going strong, as they have booked their place in the quarter-finals, with the WTA star defeating Suzan Lamens with a final score of 6-3, 6-2, and Hurkacz surpassing Tallon Griekspoor with a final score of 6-3, 7-6(4).

However, later during the post-game press conference, Świątek received a light-hearted jolt after learning something that would change her mixed doubles stats forever.

In the conference, she was asked about a wildcard she was given for the 2019 Australian Open mixed doubles with Łukasz Kubot, to which she replied, “That was a wild card?” to which the individual replied, “I think it was. I think,” and then Świątek replied, “I thought I never used the wild card in my life. I ruined the stat for the mixed doubles?” (via ASAP Text)

The X post by Swiateking highlights the conversation that took place, in which the Polish sensation discovered she had been given the mixed doubles wildcard for a Grand Slam.

Considering her match against the Netherlands, the Polish star reflected that she was joyful for clinching the victory, “I’m really happy that I found a way to be more solid in the middle of the first set because it was pretty even until then,” she continued, “I felt like I had more control over the ball and could go for it. I’m really happy that we won this tie just with singles. It gives us good confidence going into the quarter-finals.”
