Félix Auger-Aliassime has recently shared his thoughts on why he won’t be participating in the 2026 Davis Cup with Team Canada, as they are set to face Brazil in the first round of Qualifiers. In his performance at the United Cup, the ATP World No. 5 faced defeat at the hands of Zizou Bergs of Belgium, as they defeated Canada with a final score of 3-0.
Félix Auger-Aliassime Reveals Reason for His Absence From Davis Cup 2026 Qualifiers
Auger-Aliassime, who is the captain of Team Canada for the United Cup, which is currently being held across Perth and Sydney from January 2 to 11, was one of the talents featured in the 2019 Davis Cup, when Canada reached their first final, along with Denis Shapovalov, eventually losing to Spain the final with a score of 2-0 at Caja Mágica in Madrid.
He faced defeat at the hands of Roberto Bautista Agut, whereas Shapovalov lost his match to the legend, Rafael Nadal. In 2022, Auger-Aliassime led Canada to its first Davis Cup title, as he defeated Alex de Minaur, and Shapovalov defeated Thanasi Kokkinakis.
During the post-game conference, the WTA star shared that he would not be playing at the 2026 Davis Cup Qualifiers round one due to scheduling reasons, mentioning, “Yeah, I don’t play. It’s decision with schedules. I’ve played a lot of tennis in the last part of 2025. Obviously I have to be here, get ready for the Australian Open.” (via ASAP Text)
He continued, “I’m probably going to need a bit of time after the Australian Open to reset. Yeah, that’s just personal schedule decisions. Playing a team event has always been great for me. Had success. I’ve enjoyed it. I’m going to play in the future obviously in my career. Just a matter of time.”
Last year, Auger-Aliassime withdrew from Team Canada’s Davis Cup due to fatigue, considering the hectic schedule following his impressive run at the US Open, where he reached the semifinals and was defeated by Jannik Sinner.

This year’s Canada Davis Cup Qualifiers team nominations feature Gabriel Diallo, Liam Draxl, Alexis Galarneau, Nicolas Arseneault, and Cleeve Harper, and will be captained by Frank Dancevic. In their first Qualifiers round, they will clash against Brazil, featuring João Lucas Reis da Silva, Gustavo Heide, Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida, Fernando Romboli, Marcelo Melo, and captained by Jaime Oncins.
Whereas Joao Fonseca is absent from the lineup, and was set to start his season with the Brisbane International, but has withdrawn due to a lower back injury. The current ATP elites, including Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi, have expressed their concern, suggesting that the Davis Cup should be held every two years, citing their reasons while also highlighting the scheduling issues.
