After finishing third in the 2024-25 Premier League table, Manchester City have popped up as one of the title contenders again this season. And, they are reportedly aiming to bolster their defence with a Liverpool transfer target in the ongoing January transfer window.
Manchester City Target Liverpool-Linked Defender
According to BBC, Manchester City are keeping close tabs on Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi this month following recent injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol. They are set to wait to know the extent of the aforesaid pair’s injuries before launching a winter move for Guehi.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are believed to be interested in entertaining bids for Guehi in the January transfer window, with the centre-back set to be a free agent in June. Last summer, the Eagles had pulled out of a deal to sell their captain to Liverpool for around $47 million.
Liverpool, who are eight points behind Manchester City in the league table now, still hold a concrete interest in Guehi. However, their initial plan of signing the former Chelsea star on a free transfer could change should Pep Guardiola’s side intensify their pursuit of the ace.
Guehi, who is valued at $65 million by Transfermarkt, is relishing a fine 2025-26 campaign for his club. He has registered three goals and four assists in 31 outings in all competitions for Oliver Glasner’s outfit this term, helping them register 11 clean sheets in the process.
The 25-year-old defender is a regular starter for England as well, making 26 appearances.

Liverpool Ace Names Manchester City As Potential Title Winners
Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister has asserted that the reigning Premier League champions are out of contention for the Premier League title, naming Manchester City as a contender.
“There are not many chances of Liverpool retaining the title. I hate to say it, but it is quite clear. Arsenal are in a really good moment, Manchester City are quite close, but we are not close in terms of performances or results. It hurts because this should be a moment when we are enjoying the Premier League, which we won, and we should be in a much better place than we are,” Mac Allister told Sky Sports (via GOAL).
Liverpool, under Arne Slot’s leadership, notched the Premier League title with 84 points last season. However, after a host of summer incomings and outgoings, they are in fourth place with 34 points from 20 games, trailing league leaders Arsenal by a whopping 14 points.
