The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got off to a promising start during the 2025 season despite dealing with multiple injuries, but their momentum unraveled down the stretch, ultimately costing them a playoff berth.
While it marks just the first time in four seasons that head coach Todd Bowles has missed the postseason, the disappointing finish has placed his job security under scrutiny. As the NFL approaches Black Monday, attention has shifted to Bowles’ contract details and his overall financial outlook amid growing uncertainty about his future in Tampa Bay.
How Much Is Todd Bowles Earning As Buccaneers HC?
Bowles, who played as a defensive back in the NFL before starting his coaching career, joined the Buccaneers as defensive coordinator in 2019. He was promoted to head coach in 2022 and initially signed a four-year deal.
This season was supposed to be the last year of his contract, but the fact that he made the postseason three times in three years convinced the Bucs to extend him through the 2028 season.
However, that decision now looks questionable following a late-season collapse that saw the team lose four of its final five games and miss the postseason.
Exact contract figures for Bowles are not publicly available. However, according to Front Office Sports, Bowles is not among the 20 highest-paid head coaches in the league. It means his salary could be less than $3.5 million.
However, there is no guarantee that the Buccaneers head coach is making less than the mentioned amount, as, based on market trends, established head coaches with playoff experience are earning between $8 million and $12 million annually in 2025. While Bowles’ precise salary remains unconfirmed, it is reasonable to assume his annual compensation falls within or above that range.
Using a conservative estimate of roughly $3 million per year, Tampa Bay would owe Bowles close to $9 million if it were to move on from him before the end of his contract. If his salary is actually more than that, then the Buccaneers will owe close to $20-$30 million, which is a huge amount.
NFL insider Jeremy Fowler recently reported that changes could be coming in Tampa Bay following the team’s playoff miss, though Bowles’ future remains uncertain.
“On the Bucs, Todd Bowles’ buyout would be hefty after the team extended his contract through 2028, and the team doesn’t seem overly eager to pay that. Bailing on Bowles would be the Bucs’ way of embracing a rebuild. But someone will have to pay if they lose to Carolina. Staff changes are not off the table either way,” explained Fowler.
As of 2025, Bowles’ net worth is estimated at $25 million. This is higher than some head coaches, given his lengthy coaching career and his previous career as an NFL defensive back.
Although Bowles’ current salary isn’t publicly known, it would still be costly for the Buccaneers to move on from him. Given the poor quality of the teams in their division, Tampa Bay is expected to retain its current head coach.
