National Analyst Sounds Off on NCAA as Trinidad Chambliss’ Future Hangs in Balance

National college football analyst RJ Young recently gave his take on the ongoing case between the NCAA and Trinidad Chambliss ahead of the Fiesta Bowl.

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is currently in the middle of a battle with the NCAA over his eligibility. After throwing for over 362 yards and two touchdowns during the Sugar Bowl against Georgia, the quarterback may have just two games left in his NCAA career.

Chambliss, who is currently a senior at Ole Miss, took a redshirt in 2021 when he arrived at Ferris State, and finished his redshirt junior season with the Bulldogs in 2024. However, the Ole Miss quarterback is trying to claim another year of eligibility.

National Analyst Sounds Off on NCAA Trinidad Chambliss Ruling

During the latest episode of ‘Adapt and Respond.’ college football analyst RJ Young previewed the upcoming playoff game between Miami and Ole Miss. During this segment, the analyst offered his view on the ongoing case between the NCAA and Chambliss.

“We’re already looking at not being able to see Trinidad Chambliss play another year of college football because the NCAA is screwing up his medical redshirt. It’s ridiculous, and it’s stupid, and I hate that.” Young called out the NCAA amid the ongoing case.

After transferring from Ferris State in 2024, Chambliss locked down the starter position following an injury to Austin Simmons. After that, the quarterback finished 5th nationally in quarterback play according to PFSN’s CFB QB Impact grades, with a 90.3 impact grade.

Recently, it was reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel that the Ole Miss quarterback was trying to request a medical redshirt for the 2022 season at Ferris State. That year, he dealt with persistent respiratory issues. There has been no decision made at this time.

“The NCAA is closed right now. I’m pretty sure they open tomorrow. Hopefully, we’ll hear an answer soon. I’ve got people working on it. I’m not the one who’s working on it. My job right now is to focus on football and to focus on this team and to focus on being 1-0 in the next game.” Chambliss revealed earlier in the week.

After throwing for over 600 yards and three touchdowns across both of Ole Miss’s playoff games, the quarterback is one game away from a National Championship. Ole Miss takes on Miami in the Fiesta Bowl this weekend.

“The most important factor for Ole Miss’s ability to win a National Championship has nothing to do with Trinidad Chambliss. It has everything to do with Pete Golding, against this Miami team, I wonder if he’ll be a little over his head; he has an offensive staff that’s crumbling.” Young stated further.

According to a recent report from CBS Sports, offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. is currently the only assistant expected to stay with the program ahead of the Rebels’ playoff clash with Miami. Running Backs coach Kevin Smith and Tight-Ends coach Joe Cox are all expected to depart for LSU to join Lane Kiffin.

Being forced to put together a makeshift coaching staff, Ole Miss will have to take on one of the hottest defenses in the country. Across two games against Ohio State and Texas A&M, Miami gave up just 17 points. The Fiesta Bowl will kick off at 7:30 PM EST on Thursday.
