Who Is Liam Rosenior? Meet Strasbourg Manager Tipped To Be Next Chelsea Head Coach After Enzo Maresca Exit

Chelsea are currently on the search for a new head coach after parting company with Enzo Maresca on Thursday.

Chelsea are reportedly on the hunt for a new head coach following Enzo Maresca’s decision to step down from his recent Blues role. They have identified Liam Rosenior of Ligue 1 outfit RC Strasbourg as a top contender for the vacancy, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

How Good a Coach Is Chelsea Target Liam Rosenior?

After his retirement as a professional player in 2018, Rosenior began his coaching career as the assistant coach of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Under-23 team the same year. He joined Derby County in 2019, initially serving as a first-team coach until 2021.

The former Fulham, Brighton, and Hull City defender became Derby’s assistant manager in January 2021 before serving as their interim manager for around three months in 2022. He was appointed as Hull’s head coach in November 2022 and departed the club in May 2024.

Afterwards, Rosenior was named Strasbourg’s head coach in July 2024 and guided his club to a seventh-place finish in the 2024-25 Ligue 1 table. His side is currently seventh in the 2025-26 table with 23 points from 16 league matches, boasting a goal difference of +5.

So far, he has helped Strasbourg record 32 victories, 13 draws, and 17 losses in 62 outings across all competitions. The 41-year-old coach has overseen 108 goals at the Ligue 1 side.

With Strasbourg also owned by BlueCo, Rosenior could soon be named Chelsea’s new boss. However, the Englishman could also choose to remain at Strasbourg to achieve his goals.

How Did Chelsea Announce Enzo Maresca’s Exit?

On Thursday, January 1, Chelsea announced Maresca’s departure in a succinct club statement: “Chelsea Football Club and Head Coach Enzo Maresca have parted company. During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the Club,” the statement read.

“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the Club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track. We wish Enzo well for the future,” the statement concluded.

Under Maresca, Chelsea won two trophies and secured 55 wins in 91 matches across all competitions.

The Blues, meanwhile, are in fifth place in the 2025-26 Premier League table with 30 points from 19 games. On the other hand, they are 13th in the UEFA Champions League standings, with 10 points from six outings, and are still in contention for both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.
