Amon-Ra St. Brown Injury Update: Should Fantasy Managers Expect the Lions WR To Play This Week?

Amon-Ra St. Brown wants to play through his knee injury in the final week of the season. Will the Lions let him?

The Detroit Lions head into the regular season finale with their playoff dreams officially over after last week’s devastating loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Amon-Ra St. Brown aggravated his knee injury during the Lions’ final drive late in the fourth quarter and limped to the locker room. With nothing left to play for, will fantasy football managers have their superstar wide receiver available for Week 18?

Amon-Ra St. Brown Injury Update

St. Brown initially experienced knee irritation following the Lions’ Week 16 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He did not practice fully in the days leading up to the Christmas Day matchup against Minnesota but still suited up and played 83% of the offensive snaps on the short week. St. Brown caught eight of 13 targets for 68 yards in the loss, showing no visible ill effects from the injury until late in the game.

The knee issue flared up again during the Lions’ final drive after the game was already decided. St. Brown took a low hit near the end of the contest and was forced to walk off the field under his own power. He did not finish the game and limped to the locker room, raising immediate concerns about his availability for Week 18.

Head coach Dan Campbell addressed St. Brown’s status on Saturday and classified him as day-to-day heading into the final week’s matchup against the Chicago Bears. Campbell noted that St. Brown wants to play and added that the wide receiver “has improved” since the injury occurred.

The head coach also indicated that St. Brown’s knee injury is “part of it,” seemingly hinting that the receiver may be dealing with more than just the knee issue, though Campbell does not expect anything to be of long-term concern.

Campbell revealed that the team intends to “give it all they’ve got” one last week, suggesting the Lions will not simply pack it in despite their elimination from playoff contention. However, it is hard to imagine the Lions pushing St. Brown to play through a knee injury in a meaningless game.

Campbell never plays starters in preseason games. While a Week 18 game is not exactly the same, it’s still just glorified practice. He may not hold healthy players out, but it would not make sense for him to risk further injury to one of his most important players.

The practice reports this week will be critical. St. Brown’s participation level will determine whether the Lions feel comfortable putting him on the field or would rather shut him down to ensure he is fully healthy for the 2026 season.

St. Browns’ Fantasy Outlook

St. Brown had another great season, posting over 100 catches and 1,000 receiving yards for the fourth consecutive year. Through 16 games, he has 106 catches for 1,262 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had just four dud weeks overall this season, cementing his status as one of fantasy football’s most consistent performers.

Week 18 represents an ideal time for the Lions to get a look at some younger players. If St. Brown does not play, the Lions could feature Isaac TeSlaa, who is making a strong case for the WR3 role next season behind St. Brown and Jameson Williams. The latter would also see an increased target share in an offense that would need to funnel opportunities somewhere without St. Brown available.

Fantasy managers playing for anything in Week 18 should be cautious with using Lions players. While plenty of teams have been playing out meaningless games for weeks, the motivation level tends to be different when it is a team that had playoff aspirations. This will be the one and only game the Lions play that does not matter after 17 weeks of high-stakes football.

The Lions are professionals and will certainly try to win on Sunday. However, the goal has to be to get through the game healthy, get to the offseason, and retool for another championship run in 2026. St. Brown’s long-term health is far more valuable than anything the Lions could accomplish in a Week 18 game against the Bears.
