With two games on Saturday in Week 17, the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Chargers kicked off the day with a defensive battle, which the Texans won 20-16. There were 12 punts and three turnovers between the two squads, and two missed kicks from Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker.
While he holds the top spot for NFL career field goal percentage, around 94%, the two misses, a 32-yard and an extra point, were jaw-dropping. While it shouldn’t drop him out of the top spot, the NFL analysts on social media couldn’t help but criticize the fourth-year kicker.
NFL World Roasts Los Angeles Chargers Kicker Cameron Dicker After Tough Game
Dicker started his career with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022, stepping in for the injured Jake Elliott. However, after Elliott was able to return to the roster, Dicker was released, but would end up in the same role for the Chargers in November after Dustin Hopkins went down. He would take over the starting job after the Chargers traded Hopkins to the Cleveland Browns in 2023.
While he started very hot, he has his lowest percentage of the season in 2025 and has missed four extra points over the last two seasons after making all of them during his first two years.
The two missed kicks against the Texans were costly, though, as the Chargers ultimately lost 20-16. The missed field goals and extra point would’ve at least given them a shot to win in overtime. However, the most shocking part was how close he was when he missed.
As Brett Kollman pointed out on X, “Cameron Dicker missing from 32 yards is one of the most statistically improbable things we’ve seen ever. He’s literally never missed from that range before.” He’s right, coming into Week 17, he had never missed a 30-39 yard field goal and has only missed two field goals between 40-49 yards in his career.

Kollman then wrote, “What in the world?” after Dicker missed the extra point in the fourth quarter.

NFL reporter Arye Pulli posted a video of the missed extra point that got yanked wide left late in the fourth quarter as the Chargers attempted to cap off a touchdown drive to make it a three-point game, saying, “Cameron Dicker just missed an extra point…what is happening?!?!?!?!?”

Indianapolis Colts reporter for The Athletic, James Boyd, was stunned as well as the Chargers’ loss kicked Indianapolis out of playoff contention, saying, “Cameron Dicker, I have NEVER seen a choke job like this. Wow.”
“Dicker had money on Houston today?” joked Benjamin Allbright on X about the Chargers kicker.
The loss proved to be massive for the Chargers as they can no longer win the AFC West division, and will have to play in the Wild Card round.
