The 2025 tennis season witnessed the retirement of several tennis stars, including Fabio Fognini, Richard Gasquet, Rohan Bopanna, Christopher Eubanks, among others. Let’s take a closer look at seven such ATP players who played their final professional match this year.

Christopher Eubanks:

Eubanks had a short professional tennis career, turning pro in 2017 and retiring in November 2025. His last tournament was the 2025 Open International de Tennis de Roanne, a Challenger event where he lost in the first round to Matej Dodig.

Eubanks achieved his best Grand Slam result at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, reaching the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Daniil Medvedev. He won one title during his career at the 2023 Mallorca Championships, where he triumphed over Adrian Mannarino in the final. He is currently working as a tennis analyst for ESPN.

Fabio Fognini:

Fognini, who turned pro in 2004, won nine ATP singles titles throughout his career. He achieved a career-high ranking of World No. 9 in singles and World No. 7 in doubles. He secured one Grand Slam title during his career, winning the 2015 Australian Open men’s doubles event alongside his compatriot Simone Bolelli.

Fognini’s final tournament was the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, where he lost in the first round to Carlos Alcaraz after giving the Spaniard a five-set scare. In his press conference, the Italian surprised the tennis world by announcing his immediate retirement.

Richard Gasquet:

Gasquet, who turned professional in 2002, announced his retirement from tennis in October 2024, with his last appearance scheduled for the 2025 French Open. This year, at the Grand Slam, he defeated compatriot Terence Atmane in the first round before falling to the eventual runner-up, Jannik Sinner, in the second round.

Although Gasquet initially planned to retire after the French Open, he made a final return to represent France at the Hopman Cup, stepping in for Arthur Fils. Throughout his career, the former World No. 7 won 16 singles titles on the ATP Tour, a bronze medal in doubles at the 2012 London Olympics alongside Julien Benneteau, and secured the Davis Cup and Hopman Cup titles with France in 2017, among other achievements.

Diego Schwartzman:

Diego Schwartzman, who turned professional in 2010, reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 8 and won four ATP Tour singles titles. His best results in Grand Slam tournaments included reaching the semifinals of the 2020 French Open and four quarterfinal appearances.

Schwartzman announced that he would retire from professional tennis after competing at the 2025 Argentina Open, his home tournament. He received a wild card entry into the main draw of the tournament, winning his first-round match against Nicolás Jarry before being eliminated by Pedro Martínez in the second round, marking the end of his playing career.

Vasek Pospisil:

Vasek Pospisil, who turned professional in 2005, retired from the sport in July 2025. His last tournament was the Canadian Open, where he received a wild card entry into the main draw and lost to Facundo Bagnis in the first round.

Pospisil achieved a career-high ranking of World No. 4 in doubles and World No. 25 in singles. He won the doubles title at the 2014 Wimbledon Championships with partner Jack Sock and was part of the Davis Cup-winning team in 2022.

Nicolas Mahut:

Nicolas Mahut, who turned professional in 2000, won five Grand Slam titles in doubles, completing a career Grand Slam. He was ranked World No. 1 in doubles, won the ATP Finals doubles title in 2019 and 2021, and was part of the 2017 Davis Cup-winning team with France, among numerous other accomplishments.

The Frenchman played the last match of his career at the 2025 Paris Masters, competing in the doubles event alongside Grigor Dimitrov. They were defeated in the first round by the duo of Hugo Nys and Édouard Roger-Vasselin.

Apart from his doubles exploits, Mahut is also well known for playing the longest match in tennis history against John Isner at Wimbledon 2010. The American went on to win the match 6-4, 3-6, 6-7(7), 7-6(3), 70-68 after 11 hours and five minutes.

Rohan Bopanna:

Bopanna turned professional in 2003 and specialized in doubles. He achieved a career-high ranking of World No. 1 in doubles on the ATP Tour. He won one men’s doubles Grand Slam title, which was the 2024 Australian Open, where he partnered with Matthew Ebden. He also secured a mixed doubles Grand Slam title at the 2017 French Open alongside Gabriela Dabrowski.

Throughout his career, the former doubles World No. 1 won 26 doubles titles on the ATP Tour, including six at the Masters 1000 level. He was a two-time runner-up at the ATP Finals and earned gold medals in doubles and mixed doubles while representing India at the Asian Games, among many other accolades.

This year, Bopanna played his final match on the ATP Tour at the 2025 Paris Masters. He teamed up with Alexander Bublik for doubles but lost in the first round to the pair of John Peers and JJ Tracy. His best result this season was finishing as the runner-up alongside Takeru Yuzuki at the Japan Open Tennis Championships, where they lost to Hugo Nys and Édouard Roger-Vasselin in the final.
