NFL Announces Suspension Decision for Players Involved in Eagles-Commanders Brawl

A late Eagles 2-point try ignites a wild brawl with Washington, but the NFL issues no suspensions, setting up a fiery, grudge-filled Week 18 rematch.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders game went as expected on Saturday. The depleted Commanders held their own in the first half, leading the Eagles 10-7. However, the wheels fell off for them in the second half when they conceded 22 unanswered points, and they ultimately lost the game 29-18.

Once Marcus Mariota left the game in the third quarter, the Commanders had essentially no offense to speak of. Yet, they had plenty of anger arise late in the game when the Eagles scored a touchdown to go up 27-10. So what exactly went wrong?

NFL Announces No Players Will Be Suspended

Instead of just kicking the extra point, the Eagles decided to go for two, and Washington felt that was disrespectful. That two-point play incited a brawl on the field in which three players were disqualified from the game. However, it appears there will be no further disciplinary action against any of the players who were ejected.

Surprisingly, despite the punches thrown and players being ejected from the game, no one will be suspended following this altercation, according to Adam Schefter. However, Schefter mentioned that the players’ actions will be reviewed, with a likelihood of fines.

You can see that many players were involved in this altercation, and there is no love lost between these rival teams. What adds intrigue to this is that these teams are set to play again in Week 18 to end the regular season.

An NFL analyst posted on X, “Six flags were thrown, and three players were ejected during this fight on the Eagles’ 2-point conversion. The Commanders definitely seemed heated about the Eagles going for two with a 19-point lead late in the 4th.”

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn did not seem too pleased with the Eagles going for two that late in the game. Quinn said, “If that’s how they want to get down, all good. We play them again in two weeks.”

It will be interesting to see what the matchup looks like in two weeks. But it is safe to say the Commanders will be motivated by how the previous game ended. Even though the final match between these two will be meaningless when it comes to the playoff picture, expect the Commanders to come out with a chip on their shoulder.
