What Key Contributors Are Injured for the Eagles?

Their work isn’t done yet. With three games remaining in the regular season and a three-game lead over the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East, they still have to keep composed throughout the month of December. The playoffs are looming, and while it’s been a tumultuous year for the Eagles, their 9-5 record wouldn’t tell you that.

Their first meeting of the season with the Washington Commanders awaits on Saturday, and all eyes are turning toward some of the Eagles’ injured stars.

1) Saquon Barkley

The 28-year-old running back has been a far cry from the player he was last season, from a production standpoint. As the NFL’s rushing champion in 2024, Barkley averaged 125.3 rushing yards per game. In 2025, however, that number was essentially sliced in half with 67.1 through the Eagles’ 14 contests. Entering Week 16, he has yet to surpass 1,000 yards.

He accumulated 92 yards from scrimmage against the Raiders this past weekend, and his 24 touches tied his second-most in a game this season. Barkley came out of the game with what the Eagles described as a stinger on their official injury report, keeping him out of Tuesday’s practice. He was a full participant on Wednesday, putting him on track to play Saturday against the Commanders.

2) Lane Johnson

All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson is trending toward missing his fifth consecutive game for the Eagles. The 13-year veteran suffered a Lisfranc injury in his foot in the Nov. 16 win over the Detroit Lions, with the expectation that he would be shelved anywhere from a month to a month-and-a-half.

There were some murmurs that he would be on the field this weekend against the Commanders, but he didn’t participate in practices on Tuesday and Wednesday; back-to-back DNPs aren’t usually a good indication that a player is going to suit up for that week’s game. In Johnson’s case, he may be an exception; someone who has played as much football as he has throughout his career may not need much practice under his belt.

3) Jalen Carter

Ascending defensive tackle Jalen Carter is also expected to miss his third consecutive game with injuries to both of his shoulders. Like Johnson, Carter logged back-to-back days of DNPs in practice.

The injuries occurred in the Nov. 28 loss to the Chicago Bears. A significant piece of the Eagles’ tremendous defensive front, not having Carter at their disposal, could be a disastrous blow to any aspirations they have of pursuing another deep postseason run. En route to a Super Bowl victory a season ago, the Eagles’ deep stable of pass rushers was arguably the greatest strength of their defense. Without that, it’s hard to imagine what their identity will be.

4) Fred Johnson, Landon Dickerson

As if not having Lane wasn’t bad enough, the Eagles could also be missing another pair of offensive linemen in Fred Johnson and Landon Dickerson.

Fred has been starting at right tackle in place of Lane, but now he’s battling an ankle injury that has kept him out of back-to-back practices to begin the week. Dickerson, meanwhile, is the Eagles’ starting left guard and is listed on the team’s injury report with a calf injury. Like Fred, Dickerson didn’t practice on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Every other player on the Eagles’ injury report, including linebacker Zack Baun, outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips and tight end Cameron Latu, has practiced this week in some capacity.
