Iga Świątek Reveals Her Mindset for the Season and on Completing Career Grand Slam

The Polish native, who finished her second straight season at world No. 2, collected 62 wins in her 2025 season with only 17 losses. Along with clinching the title at the Grand Slam after defeating Amanda Anisimova in a double bagel, 6-0, 6-0, she also won titles at the Korea Open and the Cincinnati Open.

The 24-year-old, along with other WTA elites, is gearing up for the 2026 Australian Open, the tournament where she lost in the semifinals to eventual champion Madison Keys during her 2025 season. During her recent interview with CLAY, Świątek shed light on her mindset and goals, as she is close to achieving a career grand slam, having already won the French Open, the US Open, and the Wimbledon Championships.

She added while sharing that she wants to achieve this goal but doesn’t obsess over it, “I don’t set goals like that. Obviously, it’s something that I dream of and something that I want to happen one day but I’m not going to come to Melbourne and think about it every day.”

Świątek continued highlighting that changes in multiple aspects are inevitable, sharing, “I know that there’s seven matches to win and the Grand Slams are two weeks, a lot can happen. So I’m really going to just take it step by step. Just focusing on the pre-season well is the key, and then I’ll see. But for sure, it would be a dream come true.”

The Polish star emphasised that she will approach the task with a procedural mindset, focusing step-by-step, and is currently focused on preparing well for the preseason. The winner of 25 WTA Tour singles titles, including six major titles, had also revealed that she would be missing some tournaments in her upcoming season.

As per the Guardian, she shared, “I would like to try missing maybe two tournaments – maybe the ones I feel I haven’t been playing well at anyway – just spending this time on grinding and getting the technique better. I think it will help me also play a little bit better under stress, because my body will remember the proper movements and what it learned during this practice time.”

Before the Australian Open, Świątek will be seen in action at the 2026 United Cup tournament along with Hubert Hurkacz, Daniel Michalski, Jan Zielinski, Katarzyna Kawa, and Katarzyna Piter.
