The NHL trade season is heating up, and teams are already scouting players who could tilt the balance in their favor. While some teams focus on long-term rebuilding, others are ready to make bold moves to strengthen their playoff chances.
For the Buffalo Sabres, the focus has been on staying competitive despite a streaky season. Amid that uncertainty, one player has emerged as a potential trade target, drawing attention from teams seeking a proven scorer and veteran presence.
Dallas Stars Eye Sabres’ Forward Alex Tuch in Trade Talks
Alex Tuch, the 29-year-old right winger and alternate captain of the Sabres, has emerged as a player of interest in the latest trade chatter. Drafted 18th overall by the Minnesota Wild in 2014, Tuch has developed into a key figure for the Sabres, providing size, skill, and consistent offensive production.
This season, he has tallied 11 goals and 17 assists in 31 games, showing a balance of scoring and playmaking that has been valuable to the Sabres. His presence on the ice has helped the Sabres generate opportunities even when the team struggles to sustain momentum, making him a prime target for teams seeking a proven forward.
The Sabres themselves are 14-14-4 this season, sitting eighth in the Atlantic Division, a reflection of inconsistency that has hampered their ability to climb higher. Offensively, players like Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin have contributed, yet defensive lapses and occasional goaltending challenges have limited the team’s ability to string together victories. In this environment, a player of Tuch’s caliber is naturally drawing attention as a potential asset for teams ready to “go for it.”
Jeff Marek, speaking on a recent podcast shared by “Daily Faceoff,” highlighted Tuch as a natural fit for the Dallas Stars.
“Do you think, because I do, that Dallas somehow responds here? This is obviously another go-for-it year for the Dallas Stars,” Marek said. “I don’t think it would surprise anyone if, at the end of the day, they ended up with Alex Tuch of the Buffalo Sabres.”
“That one would make a lot of sense, I think, for the Dallas Stars. He would fit that team like a hand in a glove, specifically in the postseason.”

Marek’s comments underline the urgency teams feel when identifying players who can make an immediate impact in playoff scenarios, particularly forwards who combine scoring ability with veteran experience.
Tuch’s contract situation adds another layer to the trade discussion. Signed to a seven-year deal worth $33,250,000 with an annual cap hit of $4,750,000, his contract expires at the end of the 2025-26 season, after which he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
For Dallas or any interested club, acquiring Tuch would not only provide immediate scoring depth but also the flexibility to plan around his contract status moving forward.
