Miami-OH entered the season with uncertainty, but that quickly turned into optimism. Thanks to the emergence of Adam Trick, the defense became a disruptive group on its way to the MAC Championship Game.
Now, Trick is in the transfer portal. Let’s look at where he would possibly land.
Texas Tech
The Red Raiders aren’t strangers to spending money to acquire talent via the transfer portal. Their current defensive line fits that description, but many of them will be gone after this year. Trick could replace that talent and keep the level of play the same.
Trick put together an impressive season with 59 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks. He was named to PFSN’s All-America First Team Defense and had a 96.4 rating in PFSN’s DT Impact metrics (first overall). He’ll most likely play end at his new school, but his play speaks for itself regardless of position.
Wisconsin
Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers had the displeasure of hosting Trick and the Redhawks this year. While the home team came away with the win, they didn’t have much fun blocking the All-American.
The Badgers’ administration stated its support for Fickell heading into next year, and increased financial support could help them land a star like Trick. Wisconsin’s defense must replace multiple up-front defenders, and Trick would be a huge win.
Cincinnati
Trick could fit nicely into a three-man front scheme. He has a good burst and has a solid anchor to handle life in the trenches. His first step helped him create disruptive plays for the Redhawks, and the Bearcats are looking for someone to do that for them next year.
Cincinnati loses multiple key players on the first and second levels, so Trick’s addition would be huge. They faced him in the two previous seasons, so they’ll have plenty of film to review for an evaluation.
Indiana
One of the most exciting stories in college football remains the Indiana Hoosiers, but head coach Curt Cignetti knows he’ll need to retool his defense up front next year. With Mikail Kamara and Stephen Daley gone, Trick gives them a solid option to replace one of them.
Indiana’s roster is full of underrated talent, and many still don’t know Trick. He’ll fit right into this group of misfits, and his production would rival the two guys who are departing from his position.
Iowa
Honestly, Adam Trick feels like an Iowa Hawkeye. He’s physical, has a surprising burst, and goes about his business like a professional. Iowa is losing a couple of big names up front after this year, and Trick would pick up right where they left off this season.
