Carlos Alcaraz has added another feather to his cap, this time being honored with the 2025 Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award at the ATP Awards. This marks the Spaniard’s second time receiving this award, after winning it for the first time in 2023.
The record for the most wins of the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award is held by Roger Federer, who has claimed it a staggering 13 times, with Rafael Nadal in second place, winning it five times throughout his career.
Carlos Alcaraz Reacts After Winning Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award
One of Alcaraz’s prominent moments of sportsmanship this year occurred during his fourth-round match against Ben Shelton at the 2025 French Open. In a show of honesty, Alcaraz called a foul on himself, which resulted in him losing a point that had initially been awarded to him, giving the point to Shelton.
Previously, the winner of the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award was determined by a vote from the International Tennis Writers’ Association (ITWA). However, this year, the winner was selected by a vote among 29 current and former players who have reached World No. 1 in the ATP rankings.
Reacting to the news of his award, Alcaraz took to social media to share the ATP’s announcement post, adding a red heart emoji and praying hands emojis, expressing his gratitude.
“❤️ 🙏🏻,” Alcaraz captioned his Instagram story.

In addition to Alcaraz, other award winners at the 2025 ATP Awards included Valentin Vacherot, who received the Breakthrough of the Year award; Andrey Rublev, who won the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award; and the Italian duo Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, who were named Fans’ Favorite Doubles Team.
Alcaraz concluded his 2025 tennis season after participating in the ATP Finals. There, he defeated Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, Lorenzo Musetti, and Félix Auger-Aliassime before losing to Jannik Sinner in the final.
After his campaign in Turin, the six-time Grand Slam champion took some time off from the sport before returning for a couple of exhibition tournaments: the 2025 Miami Invitational and the “A Racquet at The Rock” exhibition event in Newark, New Jersey.
This year, Alcaraz captured eight titles, including two Grand Slam titles: the 2025 French Open and the US Open, where he triumphed over Sinner in the final. He also won three ATP Masters 1000 titles this year: the Monte-Carlo Masters, where he defeated Lorenzo Musetti in the championship match, the Italian Open, and the Cincinnati Open, again defeating Sinner in the finals.
The World No. 1 also won the 2025 ABN AMRO Open, the Queen’s Club Championships, and the Japan Open. He finished as the runner-up at the Barcelona Open and the ATP Finals and reached the semifinals at the Indian Wells Masters.
