Connor McDavid’s Wife Reveals Her Primary Superstition for Oilers’ Game Days

Connor McDavid’s wife, Lauren Kyle, reveals her quirky game-day superstition while offering a glimpse into the Oilers captain’s superstitions.

The Edmonton Oilers’ recent surge hit a speed bump with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night. Even so, the team remains in a decent spot, sitting fourth in the Pacific Division with a 13-11-6 record.

As the season rolls on, Connor McDavid continues to draw attention, not just for what he does on the ice, but also for the quirky routines and rituals that surround his game days. And now, his wife, Lauren Kyle, is sharing the superstition she sticks to on Oilers game days.

Lauren Kyle Opens Up About Her Oilers’ Game-Day Ritual

McDavid is known as one of hockey’s most structured, routine-driven athletes. But behind that discipline lies a whole collection of superstitions that fans have come to know well, from his ragged, hole-filled socks that he refuses to give up, to wearing the same suit during winning streaks.

In 2025, he even made headlines for breaking one of hockey’s most sacred taboos: touching the Campbell Bowl before the Stanley Cup Final.

Speaking on the Never Offside with Julie & Cat podcast, Lauren was asked how she fits into McDavid’s pregame routine and whether she’s adopted any superstitions of her own.

“He has most of that under control,” she said. Lauren said McDavid brings home the same meal from the rink before every game, and their chef, Sheridan, prepares his food the day before. She added that she’s too busy to cook every night, so she doesn’t make his pregame meals.

But Lauren admits she has her own little rituals tied to his routine.

“So, I do certain things that like kind of go after his routine that I think is superstitious for me. Like he puts his plates to the right of the sink and I need to like put them in the dishwasher. I don’t feel like it’s going to be a good game. Like I do weird things like that for sure,” she said.

When he piles clothes in the closet, she has to move them to a different spot. These little habits have become part of her own superstition.

Lauren acknowledged that she wishes she didn’t have these tendencies, but feels they naturally develop and get passed along.

McDavid’s Future Remains a Talking Point

Recently, rumors tied McDavid to the Toronto Maple Leafs, especially after he signed a team-friendly two-year extension with the Oilers at the same cap hit as his previous contract. With questions about Edmonton’s long-term consistency, some speculated that the Leafs or another contender could become an option down the road.

A survey by The Athletic offered an interesting snapshot: 56.4% of respondents believe McDavid will remain in Edmonton, while about 10% think a future move to Toronto is possible.

For now, though, McDavid remains the face of the Oilers, and Lauren’s game-day superstitions aren’t going anywhere. The rest of the story will unfold in the seasons ahead.
