Ty Simpson’s NFL Draft Stock Questioned as Potential 2026 Alabama Return Revealed

As Alabama was routed by Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson did not help his NFL draft stock.

Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson didn’t have his best game on Saturday against the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Simpson was only able to lead the No. 9-ranked Crimson Tide’s offense into the end zone once against a tough Georgia defense. As the clock ticked away toward a 28-7 victory and another SEC title for Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart and the No. 3-ranked Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff rankings, there’s another element in play regarding Simpson: his NFL draft stock.

Where Does Ty Simpson’s NFL Draft Stock Stand Now?

PFSN analyst Ian Cummings had some insights to share on just how Simpson is looking right now when it comes to the 2026 NFL Draft.

“Ty Simpson’s 2026 NFL Draft stock has been a parabolic curve this year,” Cummings said.
“In October and early November, after winning performances against Georgia, Vanderbilt, Missouri, South Carolina, and LSU, we were discussing him as a QB1 candidate.

“Since then, however, it’s been all downhill,” Cummings added. “Simpson was shell-shocked against Oklahoma and has struggled to recapture his rhythm, and it culminated in his wholly ineffective showing against Georgia today.”

According to the PFSN CFB QB Impact metrics, Simpson has an impact score of 85.6 and grades out to a B. On Saturday against that Georgia defense, Simpson went 19-for-39 with 212 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Simpson averaged 5.4 yards per pass as the Bulldogs’ pass rush was in his face pretty much all game long.

“He would still be in Round 1 consideration if he declared, but Simpson’s situational accuracy and precision is a major concern at this point, as is his inconsistency and freneticism under pressure,” Cummings said.

“At best, he’s QB3 behind (Dante) Moore and (Fernando) Mendoza. If QB1 is the aspiration, he’d benefit from another year of starting experience — but Simpson also might simply not be a QB1 talent to begin with.”

His play in the SEC Championship Game will not help him much in the eyes of NFL scouts. Simpson will have to perform much better in a bowl game for his draft stock to improve significantly. As for Saturday, Simpson will have to sit with this loss to Georgia and wonder what might have been.
