LT Overton’s NFL Draft Potential

LT Overton had a career-best campaign for the Crimson Tide in 2025, and it’s coming at an opportune time for his 2026 NFL Draft stock. The former five-star recruit logged 4 sacks and 6 tackles for loss in 12 games — both career highs — and at his best, he was a consistent pressure generator and play disruptor from multiple alignments.

Overton’s versatility, in particular, is a strong point of his game. At 6’2″ and over 270 pounds, with near-34″ arms, he has a rare mix of natural leverage, compact mass, and proportional length. Those tools, combined with his explosiveness and motor on the chase, enable him to generate power and muddy offensive looks from wide alignments, head-up over the tackle, or slanting inside. Creative defensive minds who employ hybrid fronts will be first in line to add Overton to their rotation.

Having said all this, Overton — in relation to his original recruiting billing — has arguably underachieved across his career, and the advanced metrics invite pause for his play in 2025. Despite his career-high numbers, he still has a PFF pressure percentage of just over 10%, and he has just a 1.3% quick pressure percentage. Production and consistency are both question marks for Overton, and to see what he can be at his peak, you have to micro-analyze individual games.

Against South Carolina, Overton showed off his ability to rush from multiple alignments, push the pocket with power, and hold strong in the run game — but against an elite creative threat at QB in LaNorris Sellers, Overton’s non-elite range and flexibility in pursuit showed up. Against LSU, Overton had a sack on a hustle play, and his natural leverage profile proved valuable in run defense.

That natural leverage and high-floor run defense from multiple alignments is what Overton will hang his hat on as a 2026 NFL Draft prospect. He assuredly has the explosiveness and quickness for his size to disrupt 1-on-1, but he still doesn’t have a vast pass-rush arsenal or move bag, and he’s still developing as a power sequencer, too.

My personal opinion is that Overton could be better served adding on at least 10 additional pounds and playing more as a hybrid 3-tech with some face-up 5-tech appeal. That inbuilt alignment versatility is automatically a plus, as is his natural leverage, mass, and explosiveness, but his ceiling is limited if he can’t build on his skill set and learn to win at contact with precision and violence. At this point, he profiles as a strong rotational defensive lineman, but a project if full-time, three-down starting upside is the goal.

Where Is Overton Being Selected Most Often in the PFSN Mock Draft Simulator?

Overton currently holds the No. 34 overall rank among prospects, positioning him as a Day 2 prospect. His most recent Average Draft Position (ADP) of 34.3 as of December 6 reflects that he is typically being selected in the second or third round.

This small gap between rank and ADP suggests he’s consistently valued among evaluators, even amid fluctuations in player evaluations at this stage of the draft cycle.

Users controlling the Chicago Bears have been the team that selected Overton the most frequently over the past week, accounting for 3.2% of their picks across all seven rounds. Notably, 16.7% of the Chicago Bears’ first-round selections over that same period were used on Overton, underscoring users’ strong preference for him as a potential immediate-impact EDGE defender.
