While the team continues to win, the availability of their top scorer remains a major question mark for the franchise.
What Is the Latest Update on Tyler Herro?
Heat insider Anthony Chiang said that Herro is now listed as doubtful for the team’s road game against the Orlando Magic. Chiang added that “Herro will undergo an MRI tomorrow.” The guard is currently dealing with right big toe irritation.

This latest setback occurred just a week after Herro finally made his season debut. He missed the start of the 2025-26 campaign after having surgery on his left foot and ankle. The scoring guard is looking to build off making his first All-Star team last season. When active, he has been dominant, averaging 23.8 points per game on 52.4% shooting from the field and 48.4% shooting from three in five appearances this season.
Miami is generally known as a defensive grinder, but this season has seen a shift in direction. The Heat are currently second in the NBA in scoring, averaging 123.6 points per game. They are leading the league in pace, as their new up-tempo offense is based on making quick decisions and putting constant pressure on defenses.

This offensive explosion has helped the team climb the standings. The Heat are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 14-8 record. They have gone 3-2 with Herro in the lineup. The franchise drafted Herro with the 13th overall pick in the 2019 draft and has watched him develop into one of the NBA’s premier volume scorers. He was named the league’s Sixth Man of the Year in 2022, after leading reserves with 20.7 points per game, before Head Coach Erik Spoelstra moved him into the starting lineup full-time the following season.
Herro should thrive in this system, which essentially gives him even more freedom to score, if he can stay healthy this season. However, his injury struggles are notable. There were reports before the season that the Heat weren’t prioritizing offering Herro a new extension after his current one ends following next season.
This situation raises a difficult question: If Herro can’t stay healthy this year, will that impact future talks? The Heat have gotten off to a strong start without him this season and may not need his volume scoring as much in this new offense. That reality could come up in future contract negotiations. For now, the Heat surely want their All-Star guard back on the court as they make a run to reach the top of the standings.
