Duke forward Cameron Boozer grabbed headlines once again with his outstanding performance for the No. 4 Blue Devils against the No. 15 Florida Gators on Wednesday. Boozer tallied 29 points, six rebounds, and two assists against the defending champions to continue his impressive start to his college basketball career.
However, recent comments from an anonymous NBA executive about Boozer’s ability drew the ire of fans online, who slammed the criticism following the Duke superstar’s impressive outing against the Gators.
Fans Up in Arms After NBA Executives’ Comments About Cameron Boozer
On Thursday, “The Field of 68” revealed on X that an anonymous NBA executive was lukewarm on Boozer’s talent and downgraded his draft stock among the class of 2026 prospects.
“Every time he’s played against like-sized bigs, he can’t finish. He dominates lesser competition,” the anonymous NBA insider reportedly said. “He’ll be a better player than one or two of the guys ahead of him, and will find a way to be a good player in the NBA, but just doesn’t have the upside. I can see him going anywhere from 3 to 6.”
College basketball fans on X immediately pushed back on the NBA executive’s assertions about Boozer. “Anonymous NBA exec would lose his job if he passes up on Boozer next summer,” one fan tweeted.
“Buddy is averaging 24.5/9.5/3.5 in the Kansas, Texas, Arkansas, Florida games and is 4-0 in those games lmao what a idiot,” another fan tweeted.
“He just dropped 30 on the “best frontcourt” in America,” one fan tweeted.
“Bro literally carried Duke against Trevon Brazille and Thomas Hugh,” another fan tweeted.
“After putting up 35 on Arkansas and 29 on Florida smh,” one fan wrote.
The talented Boozer has regularly been pitted against BYU Cougars star AJ Dybantsa and Kansas Jayhawks’ Darryn Peterson as the candidates to snag the top three picks during the 2026 NBA Draft.
During an appearance on TNT Sports on Wednesday, college basketball analyst Seth Davis criticized the Blue Devils’ overreliance on Boozer, predicting that it didn’t bode well for long-term success for the team.
“I think that Duke, as good as Cam Boozer is, it’s not a formula for long-term success,” Davis said. “I mean, he had 29 again tonight. Caleb Foster played really well against Arkansas. He was a non-factor tonight. Isaiah Evans has been up and down. You can see the pieces are there for Duke.”
“Now they’re winning these games. They beat Kansas without Darryn Peterson. So it’s good to learn these things while you’re winning, but I’m just telling you. As good as Cam Boozer is, may be the best player in the country. It’s not enough.”
Boozer will get another chance to boost his draft stock when the Blue Devils clash against the unbeaten No. 7 Michigan State Spartans (8-0) on Saturday.
