With the MLS Cup final fast approaching, former Germany international Thomas Müller made it a point to outline some strong feelings towards the Vancouver Whitecaps’ rivals for the weekend, Inter Miami.
Speaking candidly on the prospect of going up against the high-flying outfit in sunny Miami, Müller stated that Inter Miami are much more reliant on Argentina icon Lionel Messi than the Vancouver Whitecaps are on him.
Müller, who joined the Whitecaps on a free transfer earlier this August, helped his team win 3-1 against San Diego FC to advance to the MLS Cup final earlier this Saturday. The Bayern Munich legend started the Western Conference final and played 61 minutes at Snapdragon Stadium.

Thomas Müller Opens Up On Locking Horns With Lionel Messi
Following the Vancouver Whitecaps’ Western Conference title glory, Müller was asked to provide his two cents on his new side facing Messi in the MLS Cup final.
“It’s not about Messi against Thomas Müller, it’s Miami against the Whitecaps. Maybe they rely a little bit more on him than we do on me, because we are such a good group, you know what I mean?”, the 36-year-old responded (via MLS).
Müller also offered additional thoughts on the Whitecaps’ upcoming battle.
“The nice thing about it is not only playing against the greatest player who played our game and is still playing our game, but it’s more that when you have a pairing like this, more people are watching. If more people are watching, the value also for you as a player, as an individual, also for your team, and also for your franchise, is way bigger,” the Whitecaps star said.
Since leaving his boyhood club Bayern Munich and joining Vancouver, Müller has started 11 of 12 appearances across all competitions. He has found the back of the net nine times and also registered four assists for the Canadian champions.

Will Thomas Müller Be Fit To Face Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami?
Since joining the Vancouver Whitecaps, Müller has missed a couple of games owing to a calf injury. However, he confirmed that he will be in action against Inter Miami in the MLS Cup final at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Saturday, Dec. 6.
When asked about his fitness in a post-match press conference, the German replied (via MLS), “Oh, it’s good enough. It’s always good enough. I think we’ll be fine until next week. I tried to keep it together [against San Diego], and I think the boys are appreciating it as well. But you could see it on the pitch today… we had some great actions, offensively and defensively, and I’m very, very proud to be part of this group.”
The 2014 FIFA World Cup winner is expected to wear the captain’s armband in the final.
