Gunner Stockton Keeps Georgia Future Unclear As He Reflects on Emotional Senior Day Moment

Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton remains tight-lipped about his future with the Bulldogs ahead of the Alabama game.

Gunner Stockton’s Georgia is fresh off a 16-9 win over Georgia Tech last Friday. The Bulldogs capped off the 2025 regular season with an 11-1 record (7-1 in the Southeastern Conference). Stockton’s squad is now preparing for its upcoming SEC championship game against 10-2 Alabama on Saturday.

Meanwhile, his future with the Bulldogs also remains a hot topic of discussion.

Gunner Stockton Avoids Clear Answer on Georgia Future

Georgia honored its seniors two weeks ago during the 35-3 win over Charlotte on Nov. 22. Stockton chose to participate alongside his fellow seniors, which many interpreted as a possible signal that this could be his final season at Georgia.

Stockton was eventually asked about his plans with Georgia for next year on Monday, and he has an honest confession. “I haven’t thought about any of that,” he said. “I walked on Senior Day just because those were all of the guys that I came in with. Just a moment to kind of look back and appreciate all the things that came with that.”

In Georgia’s latest win over Georgia Tech, the Bulldogs extended their winning streak over Tech to eight games and lead the all-time series 73-39-5 since 1893. However, Stockton and the Bulldogs’ offense struggled to move the ball through the air against Georgia Tech. Ranked 13th on PFSN’s CFB QB impact, he recorded a season-low 70 passing yards, one touchdown, one interception, and a QBR of 25.4.

Stockton has recorded 2,535 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns, and five interceptions this season. His teammate and Georgia linebacker CJ Allen had heavy praise for the quarterback’s caliber.

“Gunner has always been the same person as far as coming in working,” Allen said. “One of the first guys in, last guys out. Head down working.”

Most rankings place Stockton among the top 20 draft-eligible quarterbacks, but he isn’t drawing significant NFL attention. Early favorites for potential first-round picks in the 2026 draft include the Indiana Hoosiers’ Fernando Mendoza, the Alabama Crimson Tide’s Ty Simpson, and the Oregon Ducks’ Dante Moore.

However, CBS Sports’ Emory Hunt is one of many to be high on the quarterback.

“We look at Gunnar Stockton from when he stepped into that SEC title game last year against Texas and still held his own and got them down to score the game with a touchdown,” Hunt said. “I was locked in because yeah, it may not be technically great pass to pass down to down, but man, you can’t count that dude out.”

“Give me guys like that can just play ball, like go get buckets. And that’s what Gunnar Stockton does. That’s why I’m a big fan of what he does for Georgia and why they kind of had that Stetson Bennett aura around them this year based on how well Gunnar Stockton gets up for the game.”

Most 2026 NFL mock drafts do not project him to be selected, leaving the option open for him to return to Georgia next season and enter the 2027 draft instead.
