The Edmonton Oilers came crashing to the ground with their latest defeat against the Dallas Stars. A lukewarm road trip that ended on a positive note with a redemption victory against Stanley Cup opponents, the Florida Panthers, the Oilers returned home only to be trounced dreadfully by the Stars.
The 8-3 loss exposed several pressing issues that have plagued the Oilers. In the post-game availability, Connor McDavid appeared dejected and beaten down. Then there were the goalies: a persistent cause of distress. As the franchise’s fans grow increasingly discontent with the Skinner-Pickard duo, there could finally be some welcome change on that front.
Edmonton Oilers Are Very Interested in Tristan Jarry
The goalie situation at Edmonton and all the accompanying discourse are beyond manageable to begin with. We have reached that point in the season when we can tell where each team stands, and the Oilers can do a lot better. McDavid had little choice but to admit that between their current form and their best, the team has a lot of ground to cover.
Then there is Connor Ingram: the goalie’s NHL career was marred by injuries when Stan Bowman intervened to absorb him into the Oilers’ fold, only to keep him permanently on the sidelines. Since his arrival, Ingram has yet to make an appearance for Edmonton. The goalie situation is frustrating and demands a speedy resolution, most likely by Christmas.
At this point, news has emerged that the Oilers have finally heeded the fans’ relentless demands to improve the goalie situation if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive, and they are considering the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Tristan Jarry.
According to Kevin Weekes, the Oilers management has indicated its interest in the 30-year-old Penguins netminder. Moreover, there is some degree of familiarity, as Jarry has already played for the Oil Kings.
“I’m told 2X @NHL All-Star and @penguins Goalie Tristan Jarry is among the goalies drawing significant interest as a potential option for the @EdmontonOilers. Keep in mind he played in Edmonton with the Oil Kings,” Weekes noted on his social media.Â
Jarry is currently in the third year of his five-year, $26.9 million contract with the Penguins, and there is a chance that the NHL community sees the 30-year-old donning the Oilers jersey sometime in the future. Of course, the current goalie corps has the opportunity to increase its numbers and play its designated role to bring the team back on track.
But beyond the holiday deadline, it won’t be surprising if the Edmonton front office considers some serious roster shuffle.
