Leading Lawyer Pours Scorn on LSU’s Reported $25,000,000 NIL Offer to Lane Kiffin

Reputed lawyer warns Lane Kiffin about taking the LSU Tigers job after reportedly being offered up to $25 M in NIL spend.

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin has continued to dominate the college football headlines after constantly being linked with a move away from Oxford. The news cycle about his future in Oxford has not stopped churning even as the No. 6 Rebels are on the verge of clinching a College Football Playoff berth.

Lawyer Warns Lane Kiffin About Hefty LSU Offer

According to a report by Yahoo Sports, the LSU Tigers have extended a sensational $90 million offer over seven years to Kiffin, which includes a hefty $25 million roster-building NIL package aimed at making the team competitive.

On Saturday, in a lengthy X post, renowned lawyer Tom Mars warned Kiffin about taking the Tigers’ roster-building offer seriously, since it would be illegal under the new revenue-sharing agreement in college sports.

“Any school that “promises” Kiffin $25 million in NIL money for his roster knows they’re breaking the rules and will never put that in writing. Since LSU has shown they won’t even honor a promise that’s in a written contract, Kiffin would be a fool to rely on their word,” Mars tweeted.

The Tigers are currently engaged in a legal dispute with their former coach Brian Kelly, who was fired last month and was due a massive $54 million buyout by the program. Meanwhile, Kiffin’s contract was automatically renewed for an extra season through to 2031 after recording the Rebels’ seventh win of the season last month.

ESPN Analyst Predicts Kiffin’s Future

During Tuesday’s segment of the “Get Up” show, ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum revealed his belief that Kiffin would depart Ole Miss due to his non-committal answers during his weekly news conference on Monday.

“Well, it’s what (Lane Kiffin) didn’t say. Finebaum said. “He didn’t say, ‘I definitely will be here and coach my team in the College Football Playoff.’ That is not difficult. You can ask almost any coach who is in the College Football Playoff poll right now, and they will give you that answer.”

“Otherwise, he simply has to say, ‘I just agreed to a new deal with Ole Miss. I’ll be here the rest of my life. I’ll be making zillions of dollars.’ End of story. I think he’s best off where he is, that’s where he’s happiest. Kiffin has battled a lot of demons and he’s overcome them.”

After meeting Kiffin on Saturday, Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter revealed that Kiffin’s future would be further clarified on Saturday after the Rebels’ Egg Bowl game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
