Evaluating the Saints’ WR Room After the Latest Addition

One of these obvious areas was at kicker, but besides that, WR stood out as an area of improvement.

Changes were needed after Sunday’s loss against the Atlanta Falcons, and while some more should have been made at the bye week, it still makes sense to make them. One of these obvious areas was at kicker, but besides that, WR stood out as an area of improvement.

Why Would the Saints Need To Make the Move at WR?

Due to all the injuries, trading Rashid Shaheed away, and releasing Brandin Cooks, the Saints were left with a much weaker WR group. Chris Olave was still the #1 pass catcher, Devaugn Vele finally secured the second spot, and Mason Tipton played his first game as the #3 WR.

Although all players were making the necessary plays on Sunday, once the Saints had to rely on their depth, they were not getting open consistently. It was a challenging game for QB Tyler Shough to throw in.

With this in mind, New Orleans is looking for some depth at WR, which makes sense. Today, the team signed former Packers WR Samori Toure.

In combination with this move, the Saints have also released former Tulane WR Jha’Quan Jackson, per Nick Underhill.

What Samori Toure Could Bring to the Saints

Back in 2022, the Packers selected Toure in the seventh round of the draft, but never really secured a roster spot since that point. On the field, Toure is a good blocker, can get open, and is a consistent ball catcher, but he will not be anything crazy on offense. Until some of the injured players come back or even next season, when more WRs are added to the roster, Toure could be a short-term fix.

Still, I would not be surprised to see the Saints bring in a bit more competition throughout the week to get ready for their Week 13 game against the Miami Dolphins.
