Canucks Fans Lash Out at Evander Kane In Aftermath of 5-2 Loss to Calgary Flames

Canucks fans are furious after Evander Kane’s costly penalty in a 5-2 loss to the Flames. Here’s why frustration around Kane is growing.

The Canucks are off to a rough start this season. They’ve lost six of their last seven games and now sit near the bottom of the Pacific Division with a 9-12-2 record.

After Sunday’s 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames, Vancouver fans were furious, mainly because of Evander Kane’s ill-timed penalty that quickly became the main talking point of the game.

Why Are Canucks Fans Lashing Out at Evander Kane Right Now?

In Sunday’s game, the Canucks were down 3-1 in the second period. And Kane took a poorly timed penalty. This time, taking an unsportsmanlike act against Rasmus Andersson. The penalty came after Calgary’s third goal, which put Canucks down two. This is not the first time Kane’s antics have cost them the match.

Kane was acquired from the Oilers in June. He has been under heavy scrutiny as his struggles continue. He has only 11 points in 23 games so far.

Fans vented their frustration online, with some even urging the Canucks to move on from Kane. One fan called him “the most selfish player I’ve seen,” blaming his mistakes on bad judgment rather than bad luck.

Another fan joked, “He’s going to be a maple leaf eventually, i can feel it,” implying the team might eventually ship him out to Toronto.

Others shifted their criticism to the team as a whole, with one user saying the second period, “was the worst period of hockey they’ve played all year.” Some fans also questioned the coaching decisions. One user criticized head coach Adam Foote, saying, “Coach is still giving him tons of ice time. Unable to see the truth.”

Not all reactions were adverse, though. One fan defended Kane by saying the media is quick to criticize him only online, saying, It’s hilarious how all these little Vancouver media nerds will talk shit about him online but wouldn’t be there to tell it to his face.

The Canucks will try to bounce back when they head on the road to face the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.
