Leylah Fernandez concluded her 2025 season after competing in the Asian swing of the WTA Tour. The Canadian recently shared how she spent part of her off-season in Spain.
Fernandez’s last tournament of the year was the 2025 Hong Kong Open. She was seeded second at the tournament and began her campaign by defeating Wang Xiyu (6-1, 6-4) and Eva Lys (6-4, 6-1) in the first and second rounds, respectively. In the quarterfinals, she eliminated seventh seed Sorana Cîrstea (6-4, 6-4) and then lost to fellow Canadian and eventual champion Victoria Mboko (6-2, 3-6, 2-6) in the semifinals.
Leylah Fernandez Enjoys Downtime in Spain During Tennis Off-Season
After the Hong Kong Open, Fernandez traveled to Spain to relax during her off-season. She recently took to social media to share a series of pictures from her time in the country.
The former World No. 13 posted a picture of her sister, Bianca Fernandez, sitting on a cable car, along with a picture of herself and several photos of the breathtaking scenery in Spain.
“Off-season files 🗂️,” Fernandez captioned her Instagram post.

Reacting to Fernandez’s photo-dump from Spain, a fan commented that she was “glowing.” In response, the Canadian explained that she felt glowing because she was enjoying time with her loved ones.
“Leylah you’re glowing 🌟🌟🌟,” a fan wrote.
“Thank you! Enjoying my time with the people that I love!” Fernandez replied.

Another fan mentioned that the Costa del Sol is the “perfect place” for Fernandez to relax after a tennis season. In response, she acknowledged that the Costa del Sol is indeed a “beautiful place.”

This year, Fernandez finished with two titles to her name: the 2025 Citi DC Open and the Japan Women’s Open. At the tournament in Washington, D.C., she defeated Maya Joint, Jessica Pegula, Taylor Townsend, and Elena Rybakina to reach the final. There, she triumphed over Anna Kalinskaya with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-2, claiming her fourth career WTA Tour title.
In Osaka, Fernandez, seeded fourth, reached the final by overcoming Hailey Baptiste, Dalma Gálfi, Rebecca Šramková, and Cîrstea. In the championship match, she defeated Tereza Valentová with a 6-0, 5-7, 6-3 score to secure her fifth WTA Tour singles title.
The former World No. 13 had a semifinals run at the 2025 Hong Kong Open and reached the quarterfinals of the Abu Dhabi Open and the Nottingham Open. At the Grand Slam tournaments, she lost in the third round at the Australian Open and the US Open, was eliminated in the second round at Wimbledon, and in the first round at the French Open.
