Carson Beck has had an up-and-down college career. After a breakout junior season at Georgia in 2023, he failed to meet expectations in Athens during the 2024 season. Given his struggles a year ago, Beck bypassed the 2025 NFL Draft and transferred to Miami for the 2025 season.
After a strong start with the Hurricanes, Beck’s struggles returned, with Miami losing two games in the past month. Despite his poor play, one analyst offered a surprising perspective on what NFL scouts think of him for the 2026 NFL Draft.
Analyst Gives Surprising Take on Carson Beck’s NFL Draft Stock
Beck started the 2025 season playing at a top level, leading the Hurricanes to a 5-0 start and emerging as a contender for the Heisman Trophy. However, Miami lost its first game of the season in Week 8 against Louisville, a game in which Beck threw zero touchdowns and four interceptions.
Including the Louisville loss, Beck has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns over Miami’s last four games, and the Hurricanes suffered another defeat to SMU in Week 10.
He currently ranks 66th among all college quarterbacks this season according to PFSN’s CFB QBi metric, and many expect his recent struggles to hurt his stock for the 2026 NFL Draft.
However, NFL draft analyst Todd McShay recently explained on the “McShay Show” that NFL scouts are higher on Beck than the public, despite Miami’s recent losses and his turnover issues.
“Carson Beck is liked by some scouts a little more than you would think, considering the two losses and the backlash of those losses, and the interceptions, and all that,” McShay said.
While Beck hasn’t played his best in recent weeks, it’s easy to see why scouts still value him. Quarterbacks with experience increasingly attract NFL teams. Guys like Oregon’s Bo Nix, who played 61 career games, and LSU’s Jayden Daniels, who played 55, were not only first-round picks but also the top rookies in the 2024 draft class.
Beck has more experience than most draft-eligible quarterbacks in the 2026 class, with 48 career games. Despite his turnover issues, he has solid tools and has seen more football than most NFL rookies.

He still needs to improve his decision-making, but he’s shown flashes of greatness this year at Miami. His performances against Stanford, Notre Dame, and USF all ranked among the top 25 quarterback performances of each respective week according to PFSN’s CFB QBi metric.
The quarterback position is the hardest for scouts to project, and while Beck has plenty of areas to improve, it’s easy to see why scouts might trust him over some of the more raw quarterback prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft.
