The LA Rams firmly stepped over the San Francisco 49ers this weekend, beating them 42-26 on the road. It was a revenge game for LA after the Niners toppled them in their first encounter of the season back in Week 5.
Beyond the finer details, one major issue in San Francisco seems to be the team’s attitude.
49ers WR Kendrick Bourne Criticizes the Team’s Attitude After Wins
Kendrick Bourne was interviewed in the 49ers’ locker room after the loss and commented on the team’s responses to different situations.
“From the last few games that we took losses, you know, we’ve responded pretty well,” Bourne said in an X clip by Matt Lively. “So, just seeing that, understanding who we are, being around the guys, I know we respond well. We just gotta respond better after wins. I think that’s what we’re learning. I think we get too relaxed a little bit. You know, after we win, we ‘smell your own junk a little bit.’ So, it’s tough, we can’t be like that. I think that’s something that we’re learning.”
The wideout raised an interesting point about the team’s response to losses. Their defeat against the Rams marked the fourth time this season that they followed up a win with a loss.
The first instance came in Week 4 when they lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars after beating the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3. Then they won the first Rams game, only to lose their next matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The next instance came immediately after, when they fell to the Houston Texans after triumphing over the feared Atlanta Falcons defense. Finally, the latest loss to the Rams follows a solid win over the New York Giants on the road.
Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan and his men will have to capitalize on a very soft remaining schedule:
- Week 11: at Arizona Cardinals
- Week 12: Carolina Panthers
- Week 13: at Cleveland Browns
- Week 14: Bye
- Week 15: Tennessee Titans
- Week 16: at Indianapolis Colts
- Week 17: Chicago Bears
The Cardinals look even worse than the last time the 49ers faced them. At 3-6, they don’t have a lot going for them, coming off a 44-22 beating at the hands of the high-rolling Seattle Seahawks.
The Panthers, Browns, and Titans all present relatively easy matchups for San Francisco to switch into cruise mode before finishing their campaign with two exciting challenges in the Colts and Bears.
Sitting at 6-4, all the 49ers have to do is win their must-win games, and they’ll have a good shot at seeing the postseason despite their numerous injury setbacks.
