Carlos Alcaraz’s Parents Skip Turin Match To Show Up for Younger Brother Jaime in Mallorca As He Contests Rafa Nadal Tour Final

Carlos Alcaraz's parents skipped his ATP Finals campaign in Turin to support his younger brother, Jaime, in Mallorca.

Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has swiftly established himself as one of the most dominant players of this era, all at an exceptionally young age. Interestingly, his younger brother, Jaime Alcaraz, appears eager to follow a similar path, as evidenced by his recent success at the Rafa Nadal Tour’s Master Mallorca event.

Jaime’s run at the under-14 event even drew his parents to Mallorca, as they chose to skip Carlos’s ATP Finals campaign in Turin.

Carlos Alcaraz’s Younger Brother Jaime Beams With Pride While Celebrating Recent Tennis Milestone With Parents

The World No. 1 comes from a sporting family, with his father, Carlos Alcaraz González, being a former national-level tennis player in Spain. His older brother Álvaro, along with his younger siblings Sergio and Jaime, are also involved in the sport, making tennis a true family tradition.

Jaime Alcaraz, much like his elder brother, is quickly rising through the ranks. In July 2023, he claimed the under-12 title at a Rafa Nadal Tour event in Madrid. Interestingly, Carlos competed in the same circuit, winning the under-12 in 2015 and the under-14 title in 2016.

The World No. 1 is currently competing at the ATP Finals in Turin after a phenomenal season marked by two Grand Slam titles. Meanwhile, Jaime recently featured at the Masters Mallorca event on the Rafa Nadal Tour and made an impressive run to the final. His father, Carlos Alcaraz González, and mother, Virginia Garfia, were also present in Mallorca to support him.

Although Jaime enjoyed a strong run to the final in Mallorca, he eventually fell to fellow under-14 prodigy José Luis Vega. Still, the young Spaniard was proud of his achievement and shared a photo with his parents on his Instagram story to mark the moment.

The Rafa Nadal Tour by Santander is a junior tennis circuit launched in 2014 by the 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal. Held annually, it features boys’ and girls’ competitions across the under-12, under-14, and under-16 age groups.

What Did Carlos Alcaraz Say About the Comparisons Drawn Between Him and His Brother Jaime?

Speaking at the 2024 Six Kings Slam event in Riyadh, Alcaraz addressed the early comparisons being made between him and Jaime. While cautious about such parallels, he expressed happiness at his younger brother’s progress.

“Yeah he plays well, I’m not gonna lie. He’s getting to a really good level. But honestly there are a lot of people around, a lot of videos and accounts from social media that are saying that he’s going to be similar to his brother and I don’t really like that you know in that way,” he said.

Alcaraz urged fans and media not to pressure Jaime, noting that attention comes mainly because he is his brother. He worries this could create unnecessary expectations and emphasized that Jaime should be allowed to grow and enjoy tennis at his own pace.

“I just want all the people or all the social media to just leave him alone because he plays well but it’s not the best. So for me, I’m a little bit worried for the people who are around him during the tournament that they’re gonna go to watch him because he’s my brother and then he’ll probably put pressure on himself,” he added.

The Spaniard has turned his full attention to the ATP Finals, beginning his quest in commanding fashion with a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory over Australia’s Alex de Minaur in his opening group-stage match.
