It may have taken two years to get there, but the Carolina Panthers are starting to regularly notch victories under Bryce Young. A major component of their success has been the work of the ground game, where they have been singularly special.
However, facing the New Orleans Saints, the result of the first half has been shocking to say the least. Trailing 10-7, it hasn’t been a game to remember so far for the Panthers, particularly with the performance from Chuba Hubbard.
What Happened to Chuba Hubbard?
Earlier in the season, Carolina was splitting snaps between Hubbard and Rico Dowdle. However, as the latter has progressed into a true superstar at the position, the role for Hubbard has gradually diminished.
Eventually, the team had to bench him in favor of Dowdle, and it was evident in the box score against New Orleans. While he got 11 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown on the ground, Hubbard was limited to just a single carry, where he ran for six yards.
Ranked 37th on PFSN’s RB Impact, his stats for the season weren’t going to jump off the page. However, through the first four weeks of the year, he had over 200 rushing yards while splitting snaps with Dowdle.
As a result, many believed he could be a potential trade candidate at the deadline. However, he remained on Carolina, but his role with the franchise has clearly diminished in the last few weeks.
