ATP Finals 2025: Group and Knockout Stage Regulations, Ranking Points, and Everything To Know About How the Year-End Tournament Works

Everything to know about how the ATP Finals 2025 will operate.

The final tournament of the season, the 2025 ATP Finals, is approaching quickly. The event will feature top players, including defending champion Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Ben Shelton, among others.

The ATP Finals will take place from November 9 to November 16, 2025, on indoor hard courts at the Inalpi Arena in Turin. In addition to Sinner, Alcaraz, and Shelton, other players who have qualified for the singles event at this season-ending tournament include Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur, Lorenzo Musetti, and Félix Auger-Aliassime.

Although Novak Djokovic had qualified for the season-ending tournament, he withdrew before it began due to a shoulder injury, and first alternate Musetti took his place.

ATP Finals 2025 Will Have Players Divided Into Two Groups

The singles event at the 2025 ATP Finals will feature two groups: the Jimmy Connors Group and the Björn Borg Group. The Connors Group consists of Fritz, Alcaraz, de Minaur, and Musetti, while the Borg Group includes Sinner, Zverev, Shelton, and Auger-Aliassime. Alexander Bublik and Casper Ruud will serve as the first and second alternates, respectively.

This year, Shelton and Musetti will make their debuts in the singles competition at the season-ending tournament. With Musetti’s participation, it will be the first time that two Italian men, Sinner and Musetti, have qualified for the singles event.

Sinner and Alcaraz are both in contention for the year-end World No. 1 singles ranking. The Italian has to win the tournament as an undefeated champion to retain the year-end No. 1 ranking. Meanwhile, if Alcaraz wins all three of his round-robin matches or reaches the final, he will claim the year-end No. 1 ranking, regardless of Sinner’s results.

Defending Champion Jannik Sinner Will Defend More Than 1000 Points at ATP Finals 2025

Sinner will be defending his title at the 2025 ATP Finals. Last year, he was the top seed and kicked off his campaign by defeating the seventh seed, de Minaur, with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-4 in the first group stage match. He then overcame the fifth seed, Fritz, with a 6-4, 6-4 score, and triumphed over the fourth seed, Daniil Medvedev, with a score of 6-3, 6-4 in the next two round-robin matches.

In the semifinals, the World No. 1 defeated the sixth seed, Ruud, with a score of 6-1, 6-2. He faced Fritz again in the final and beat him with a score of 6-4, 6-4, claiming the title. By remaining undefeated throughout the tournament, Sinner earned 1500 points, which he will defend this year.

At the 2025 ATP Finals, players will earn points as follows: a win in a round-robin match will yield 200 points, a victory in the semifinals will earn 400 points, and a win in the final will result in 500 points. The undefeated champion will accumulate a total of 1500 points.

The singles matches at this season-ending tournament, including the final, will be played best-of-three sets, with tiebreaks in all three sets. The top two players from each group will advance to the semifinals, with the winner of one group facing the runner-up from the other group. The winners of the semifinals will then compete for the title.
