Hezekiah Masses’s NFL Draft Potential
Hezekiah Masses has been one of the biggest risers at the cornerback position in the 2026 NFL Draft. After transferring from Florida International, he’s been one of the CFB leaders in forced incompletions for much of the year on the back end of California’s defense.
At 6’1″, 185 pounds, Masses is long and sticky in man coverage, with stellar mirror-motor quickness, size-adjusted fluidity, plant-and-drive efficiency, and competitive zeal at the catch point. He’s not a burner, which will hurt him in Indianapolis, and he has room to add additional mass to his frame, but he should be a prime target for teams that run heavy press and off-man coverage.
CFB Week 9 Update
The Golden Bears lost in double overtime to the Virginia Tech Hokies, but Masses did his part to stymie the Hokies’ passing game where he could. In the end, it was Virginia Tech’s running game that doomed Cal, and Masses wasn’t tested much in the passing game. At 185 pounds, his weight does make it difficult for him to get off boundary blocks against stronger opponents, but he wasn’t the prime culprit in California’s ultimate defeat.
CFB Week 10 Update
The Golden Bears may have lost in Week 10, but Masses was a lockdown defender on his side of the field, with just one target and zero completions allowed, per TruMedia. On his one target, he used his stifling coverage physicality and timing to log a deflection, and his stingy man coverage dissuaded the quarterback from throwing to his side of the field. Masses remains on the fringe of my Top 100 on account of his limited vertical and recovery speed, but that shouldn’t detract from his standing as a quality prospect and scheme-specific NFL starter.
Where Is Masses Being Selected Most Often in the PFSN Mock Draft Simulator?
Masses currently holds the No. 84 overall rank among prospects, reflecting his standing among mid-round prospects. His most recent Average Draft Position (ADP) of 89.2 as of October 27 reflects that he is typically being selected on Day 2 or early Day 3.
The gap between his rank and ADP indicates that while he’s highly regarded on our board, draft simulators are seeing him slide slightly, possibly due to team needs or positional value considerations.
