Texas wide receiver Ryan Wingo left the Longhorns’ game against the Vanderbilt Commodores early with an injury. What happened to the second-year star? Here’s the latest on his status in Week 10.
Ryan Wingo Leaves Week 10 Game Early: What’s the Latest on His Status?
Wingo scored a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage for Texas, but later left the game after a catch near the sideline in the first half.
Immediately after hitting the ground for a high-difficulty catch, Wingo stood up and made his way to the medical tent on the Texas sideline. Cincinnati-based beat reporter Neil Meyer observed that Wingo’s thumb appeared to be displaced — potentially indicating a break, fracture, or dislocation.
Wingo thumb was completely broken via that replay of him walking to the tent.
Not ideal for Texas.

As the game, a must-win matchup for both teams in the race for the SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff, reached the two-minute timeout in the first half, Wingo hadn’t returned to the field. However, Inside Texas noted that:
“Ryan Wingo is back on the Texas sidelines. Hard to see if he has a splint on his hand or any other large brace from the press box. He’s currently on the bench.”
With the Longhorns cruising against the Commodores, it remains to be seen whether it’s worth risking returning Wingo to the game regardless of his injury status. That said, he is currently leading the team with two receptions for 89 yards and the opening score of the game.
Wingo emerged as a true freshman for Texas after signing as a highly-touted recruit, catching 29 passes for 472 yards and two touchdowns in 2024. To this point in 2025, he’d amassed 29 catches for 504 yards and four scores, eclipsing both his previous career-highs in less than a full season of games.
To this point in the 2025 season, Wingo had a PFSN WR Impact score of 75.6.
Stay with us through Saturday’s action, as we will update this piece once there is official word on Wingo’s injury and status moving forward.
