What is the Injury Update on Brenton Strange?

According to JaguarsWire, Strange’s hip injury is being described as a torn ligament and is expected to keep him sidelined for a minimum of five weeks.

Strange’s injury means a mandatory five-week absence and was considered good news given the initial concerns. So, it makes sense that “no update” could mean Strange is trending in a positive direction and Strange will jump into action as soon as he can jump anywhere. Which means, he is “expected” to return in two to three weeks.

Which means Duuuuval!

Strange is eligible to return to play week 11 in a foreboding matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers.

What Are the Fantasy Implications?

For fantasy managers with IR space (this year, worth caveating) and reading between the lines, Strange makes an excellent bench stash. Keep scoping those fantasy update injury reports. Trade deadlines are approaching, and if you’ve got a serviceable TE (ahem, Breton Strange) coming off IR in week 11, you might be able to parlay your current TE into a nice WR/RB upgrade.

What Does This Mean to The Jaguars’ Playoff Push?

Strange’s loss is significant for the Jaguars, who have relied on his versatile role in both the passing game and as a run blocker. Through Week 5, Strange ranked second on the team in receiving yards, catching 20 of 24 targets for 204 yards and offering quarterback Trevor Lawrence a dependable option in critical downs.

Strange’s presence opened up head coach Liam Coen’s playbook, allowing for diverse formations and helping Jacksonville establish a balanced offensive identity.

With Strange sidelined, the Jaguars have turned to Johnny Mundt and Hunter Long for tight end duties, but both have thus far had just three combined receptions over Weeks 6 and 7.  It doesn’t take an offensive-minded genius to see that’s not awesome. And in a run for an AFC playoff spot, it could be crucial, not awesome.

Ultimately, while the timeline for Strange’s return is still fluid, multiple sources suggest he could be back with enough season left to make an impact in Jacksonville’s potential playoff push. For now, fans and fantasy managers will be watching closely, hoping each update brings good news with the Jaguars’ playmaking TE returning to the field, ahead of schedule and just in time.
