Even though they held a 5-2 record after five weeks, it was hard to buy the Denver Broncos as legitimate threats with the way their victories had come in the last few weeks. It seemed like the team would come down to size, and an explosive offense like the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8 seemed like the perfect challenge.
But, through the first half, that wasn’t even remotely the case. Finally finding their groove in the first three quarters, the Broncos jumped out to a massive 27-10 lead. What made the performance even more spectacular was the extremely underwhelming performance they had gotten from a key offseason acquisition, J.K. Dobbins.
What Happened to J.K. Dobbins?
The story of the first half was surprisingly the offense from Denver, which tallied over 250 total yards, with nearly 100 yards coming on the ground. However, their rushing attack was spread all the way through and not focused on one individual.
As a result, both RJ Harvey and Dobbins had over 40 yards and 10 carries between them. But in terms of impacting the game, Harvey may have taken the cake, with 43 yards and two touchdowns on just two rushing attempts.
Dobbins had 51 yards in seven tries, but he had failed to get into the end zone, as quarterback Bo Nix supplied two more touchdowns for the Broncos through the air. In the second half, the outing turned even more dominant.
Finishing the game with the scoreboard reading 44-24 in their favor, it was a complete offensive performance from Denver, with Dobbins having a spectacular overall game. Tallying 15 carries, he added 111 yards on the ground, although he failed to add a touchdown to the total.
After the team struggled with production from the backfield all of last season, the addition of Dobbins was supposed to be the balm for that problem. Through the first seven weeks of the season, he was doing just that for Nix.
Tallying 523 yards and four touchdowns through seven games, he ranked 15th on PFSN’s RB Impact, and was a key reason for the Broncos starting the seasonn 6-2, good for the one-seed in the AFC West.
