The Philadelphia Eagles pulled off another “Tush Push” play en route to scoring their second touchdown of the game on Sunday against the New York Giants.
But the play caused a lot of angst online as it appeared that Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts lost the ball on the play. The NFL referees, though, ruled that Hurts had gained enough yardage for a first down.
Well, there were enough voices online criticizing the call.
What Were NFL Analysts Saying About Jalen Hurts?
After seeing the play on TV, NFL analyst Mike Florio (Pro Football Talk) decided to share his thoughts. The NFL outlet didn’t like the call.
Upon seeing the call on the field, Florio wrote, “Horrible call in Philly. Giants got hosed.”

As the video shows, Hurts appears to lose the ball on a fumble, and the Giants’ defense recovers it. Yet the referees didn’t see it that way at all.
This sure looks like a tush push fumble and Giants football…. Let’s see what the refs say pic.twitter.com/eDunS94vHe

Giants head coach Brian Daboll did challenge the call, but he lost that challenge. The Eagles went on to score a touchdown on a Hurts pass, taking a 14-7 lead in the second quarter over New York.
ESPN NFL analyst Ryan Clark also didn’t like the call and thought that the Giants should have been awarded a fumble recovery. Clark wrote in a post on X, “That’s tough on the Giants. Should be a fumble.”
Senior NFL reporter Albert Breer, who writes the weekly “Monday Morning Quarterback” column, points out that this play might cause more conversation about the “Tush Push.” Breer wrote, “We might have a flashpoint for the tush push here. That’s clearly a fumble.”
RJ Ochoa, who covers the Dallas Cowboys for “Blogging The Boys,” was quite lengthy in his comments after seeing the Hurts play take place at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Ochoa wrote, “Why is that not a Jalen Hurts fumble? If the tush push is just going to be whistled as soon as the Eagles convert what they need then the play literally exists just for their gain. He literally had the ball ripped away and fumbled before being down. This is so stupid.”
Getting another look at the play at the line of scrimmage, it looks like Hurts clearly had the ball taken away while he was on top of other players.

No matter how the Giants-Eagles game finishes up on Sunday, the chatter about the “Tush Push” will continue.
