NFL Makes Major Announcement on Super Bowl Halftime Show After Controversial Bad Bunny Pick

While the NFL was surprised with the negative reaction to their Super Bowl LX halftime show, they made another announcement about the show.

There is always a lot of hype around the announcement of the Super Bowl halftime show performer, and it was even scheduled for a grand announcement at halftime of a nationally televised game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers. However, when Bad Bunny was announced as the performer for Super Bowl LX, it sent shockwaves through the football landscape.

After Kendrick Lamar was a polarizing performer across the fan base last year, the NFL may have been hoping for a warmer reception to its choice this season. But it doesn’t look like most fans will be open to Bad Bunny rocking the stage at Levi’s Stadium. So, the ball is in the NFL’s court as to whether they are to make a change or stick with what they had planned.

Why Isn’t Bad Bunny a Popular Pick?

While the 31-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer is one of the current faces of Latin rap, it is far from the most popular genre in the United States. Additionally, most of the songs that Bad Bunny sings are in Spanish, which is not widely spoken by native Americans, making it challenging for American viewers to follow along with his music.

Despite these facts, the NFL believes he is the right fit for the show.

There was also a controversy with Bad Bunny, who said, “People from the US could come here to see the show. Latinos and Puerto Ricans of the United States could also travel here, or to any part of the world,” he told i-D magazine. “But there was the issue that … ICE could be outside (my concert venue). And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.” President Donald Trump has called for the NFL to remove him from the show.

What Will the NFL Do Now?

The NFL has defended its decision to hire the Puerto Rican superstar, saying it was “carefully thought through.” But this did not mean that they would do nothing, as while the NFL is “confident it’s going to be a good show,” this does not mean that they aren’t open to adding more talent to the show.

We know that the Super Bowl halftime show always has a massive audience; with that, there are many different people with many other interests to please.

Some people are bound to be disappointed, but I can never fault them for trying new things with the biggest names in the world
